What is the FUNdamentals Program?

FUNdamentals is a non-competitive program.  It is ideal for swimmers 5-10 years of age who are interested in having fun while being introduced to some of the technical aspects of competitive swimming.  This beginner program is designed to teach the swimmer to be comfortable in the water and learn to move through it.  It also focuses on basic movements and abilities required for swimming competitive strokes with emphasis on freestyle and backstroke. There is some development of stamina and endurance.

Do I have to commit to all three sessions?

When registering in FUNdamentals, BAD assumes your swimmer will be staying with the program for all three (3) sessions.   Once the swimmer is ready, and space permitting, they may be asked to advance to the next level, Novice.  If the swimmer is recommended for the next level, parents will be notified of changes including fees, scheduling, volunteer requirements etc.

What are the volunteer requirements?

There are no volunteer requirements for FUNdamentals.

What equipment will my child need?

For practice, swimmers will require a pair of well-fitting goggles, swim cap, fins and a practice suit of your choice.  Swimmers typically wear a practice suit made of polyester.  This material is the most durable in chlorine water and should last a swim season.  Boys wear a tight suit, such as a “jammer” (similar to a bicycle short), girls wear a one-piece swimsuit. Swim equipment and suits may be purchased at Team Aquatics, 8-4155 Fairview St, Burlington.  All swimmers will be issued one BAD swim cap and a BAD t-shirt.  Replacement caps or t-shirts may be purchased through the equipment manager.
