$100,000 OTF Grant - Building Back BTSC

Barrie, ON – Last September, the Barrie Trojan Swim Club (BTSC) heard the good news that it had received a $100,000 Community Building Fund grant from the Government of Ontario, and administered by the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF), to help with key operating costs,

“I am thrilled to share that the Barrie Trojan Swim Club will be receiving a $100,000 Ontario Trillium Foundation Community Building Fund Grant, as this will create and secure job opportunities, as well as improve the mental and physical health for people of all ages in Barrie” said Andrea Khanjin, MPP for Barrie-Innisfil. “Swimming improves mood, increases energy levels, and has even been discovered to strengthen values such as patience, resilience and perseverance which are all key skills we must continue to build upon as we focus on post-pandemic recovery.”

The grant is being used to help the Club with staff salaries to support success through, and beyond, a pandemic rebuild. Funds from the grant are also being used to contribute directly towards the Club’s ability to continue offering quality programming for local athletes.

Established in 1983, the BTSC is a significant provincial and regional sport presence. It is the only competitive swim club in the Barrie area and are one of the largest not-for-profit sporting organizations in the region. The Club is dedicated to excellence in competitive swim programming and developing the potential of its member athletes through focused leadership, member and staff engagement and a commitment to excellence. As proud members of the community, BTSC is motivated to develop a passion for activity, fitness and physical/mental wellness through competitive sport.

“BTSC athletes and staff have been significantly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and we could not be more thrilled with the news of our successful OTF grant application,” said Kelly McCrae, President of the Barrie Trojan Swim Club. “These funds will be used to develop and retain an outstanding and committed staff, so that we can continue to grow competitive swim programming and ensure the sustainability and future success of our athletes and our Club.”

The OTF is an agency of the Government of Ontario and one of Canada’s leading grant foundations. Last year, nearly $112M was invested into 1,384 community projects and partnerships, to build healthy and vibrant communities and strengthen the impact of Ontario’s non-profit sector. In 2020/21, OTF supported Ontario’s economic recovery by helping non-profit organizations like the BTSC, rebuild and recover from the impacts of COVID-19.
