THE COLLINGWOOD CLIPPERS SWIM CLUB

 COMPETES AT THE

2019 SPRING ONTARIO YOUTH JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Collingwood Clippers Swim Club had three swimmers compete at the 2019 Spring Ontario Youth Junior Championships hosted at the Markham Pan Am Centre (March 7th to March 10th). CCSC was represented by Hailey Abbott, Jillian Fawcett and Maggie Rhodes at the four day Provincial level swim meet. In Ontario there are three high level Provincial swim meets: Festival Championships (13&under with qualifying standard), Ontario Youth Junior Championships (open age with qualifying time standard) and Ontario Swimming Championships (open age with qualifying time standard). This meet brought together some of the strongest age group swimmers in Ontario.

Leading the way was Hailey Abbott (14) who achieved four best times, taking off a total of 5.75 seconds and making it into three “A” finals. Hailey won the Bronze medal in the girls 14 year old 200 meter breaststroke (2:52.27) and in the 100 meter breaststroke (1:19.22). Hailey also broke her own long course club record in the girls 13-14 200 meter breaststroke that she previously set at the 2019 Spring Ontario Swimming Championships the weekend prior.

Maggie Rhodes (14) achieved two best times, taking off a total of 9.96 seconds and made it into two “A” finals. Maggie had two phenomenal 200 meter backstroke races which earned her her first Ontario Swimming Championships time standard (highest Provincial level swim meet), her first Canadian Eastern Swimming Championship time standard (high-end National swim meet) and she broke the girls long course 13-14 year old 200 meter backstroke club record with a time of 2:31.00! Way to go Maggie!

Jillian Fawcett (15) achieved two best times in the 100 and 200 meter breaststroke events taking off a total of 3.24 seconds. This was Jill’s first Provincial level swim meet and she was very close to making the girls 15 y/o 100 meter breast final placing 12th in her age group. Well done Jill!

All in all the girls had a great meet filled with medals, finals, new qualifying standards, new club records and best times, well done girls! CCSC now has three Eastern Canadian Swimming Championship qualifiers (Cole Mitchell, Hailey Abbott and Maggie Rhodes). Eastern’s will be held in Quebec City from April 11th to 14th. Our next club swim meet will be the Dash for Cash long course meet hosted in Guelph, Ontario.
