THE COLLINGWOOD CLIPPERS SWIM CLUB

COMPETES AT THE

2019 SPEEDO EASTERN CANADIAN SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Collingwood Clippers Swim Club was proudly represented by three of our top swimmers at the 2019 Speedo Eastern Canadian Swimming Championships in Quebec City, QC. The four day National level swim meet brought together 808 qualified swimmers from across Canada to compete. Cole Mitchell (15) competed in the boys youth category (14-16) in the 100m backstroke, 100m freestyle and 200m backstroke. Maggie Rhodes (14) competed in the girls youth category (13-15) in the 100m & 200m backstroke. Hailey Abbott (14) competed in the girls youth category (13-15) in the 100m & 200m breaststroke. This was a huge accomplishment for the Collingwood Clippers as we as a club have not sent three swimmers to compete at a high level national meet for at least 20 years (if not longer or at all!). As a club we managed to make three consolation finals. Cole Mitchell ended up placing 17th in the 100m backstroke with a time of 1:02.07 (which is also a new club record) and placed 18th in the 200m backstroke with a time of 2:15.16. Hailey Abbott placed 19th in the 100m breaststroke with a time of 1:18.63. Maggie Rhodes moved up the rankings finishing 37th in the 100m back with a time of 1:09.21, which is a new club record that was previously held by Ashlyn Karosas (1:09.31) and was set in 2008. Maggie also placed 28th in the 200m backstroke with a time of 2:28.46, which again is a new club record as well as Maggies first Canadian Junior Championships time standard! This meet was a fantastic learning experience for our swimmers and we cannot wait to see how we as a club can progress in the rankings at next years Eastern Swimming Championships. Well done swimmers!
