Shane Downey Head Coach - Gold & Silver

 

This is Coach Shane's fourth season with the Collingwood Clippers Swim Club. As the Head Coach, Shane coaches Gold I, Gold II and Silver Group, as well as overseeing all of the other programs. It is Shane's goal to assist all swimmers to pursue their full potential in the sport of competitive swimming. 

 

Shane has been involved in the world of competitive swimming since the age of 9 when he joined the Innisfail Dolphins Summer Swim Club. At the age of 14 he started swimming year-round with the Red Deer Catalina Swim Club, then moved to Calgary to swim with the Calgary Patriots Swim Club where he still holds many club records and finished his competitive swimming career with the University of Calgary Swim Club. Shane achieved Senior National times in Backstroke, Freestyle and Butterfly. He also made the Canadian Jr. Pan Pac National Team in 2010.

 

Shane started his coaching career with the Calgary Patriots P-Too learn to swim program while swimming with the Calgary Patriots and 2 summers coaching the Calgary Swordfish Summer Swim Club.  He then moved to Langley, BC where he was the Assistant Head Coach of the Langley Olympians Swim Club for four seasons (2013 - 2017) and was the Head Coach of the Abbotsford Olympians Swim Club (sister team to Langley) for three seasons (2014 - 2017).  He has worked with a broad spectrum of swimmers ranging from learn to swim to Canadian National level swimmers. Shane has taken swimmers from Regional qualifiers to being qualified for Ontario Festivals, Ontario Youth-Junior Championships, Ontario Swimming Championships, Canadian Jr. Championships, Canadian Trials, Eastern and Western Championships where they have medaled and finished in the top 8. Coach Shane is NCCP Level 3 Trained and plans on achieving his Level 3 Certification this year.

Joyce Downey Assistant Head Coach - Bronze & Purple

 

This is Coach Joyce’s third season with the Collingwood Clippers where she coaches the Bronze, Purple and Jr. Clippers, and supports the Head Coach with the Silver and Gold groups.  Joyce has had much success with groups taking many swimmers to the Regional and Festival Championships where they have medaled in the top 3 and finished in the top 8.  

 

Joyce began her love of swimming at the age of 9 with the Foothills Swim Club (now the University of Calgary Swim Club), where at the age of 13 she achieved Sr. National standards. She also competed as a Synchronized swimmer with the Foothills Syncho Team and the Calgary Aqua Bells. She became involved again with Competitive Swimming in 2002 while on the Executive of the Innisfail Dolphins Swim Club, as well as working at swim meets as a Timer, Stroke and Turn Judge, Clerk of Course and Meet Manager.

 

Joyce began Coaching Competitive Swimming in 2006 in Central and Southern Alberta, coaching with Red Deer Catalina Swim Club, Sylvan Lake Nauticals as the Head Coach, Calgary Patriots Swim Club, Nose Creek Swim Club and Cochrane Comets Swim Club as Head Coach.  She helped swimmers place in the Top 5, 10 & 25 at the Youth Recognition level, Top 5 in Canada Rankings and earn Age Group National Time Standards.

  

Joyce moved to Belleville to become the Head Age Group Coach where she coached for 2 seasons all three Age Groups (ages 9 – 15) and helped with both the Senior Groups (ages 13 – 18).  During her time in Belleville she had 24 new Regional Qualifiers, 7 new Festival Qualifiers and they have broken over 42 Club Records.  Two of her swimmers are ranked in the Top 20 Canada Rankings. She has had swimmers medal at both Regionals and Festivals. She attended Regionals, Festivals, Canadian Swimming Championships, Ontario AA Long Course Championships and Ontario Open Water Championships.  

 

Joyce is NCCP Level 2 Certified and is continually updating her skills and knowledge of swimming. She coaches with positive reinforcement, challenging athletes to achieve their full potential both in and out of the pool.  

 

 

Hailey Abbott Junior Clippers Coach

Hailey began swimming competitively with the Collingwood Clippers when she was 8 years old. Currently Hailey swims in the Gold Group. She has attended many National and International Invitationals including Eastern Canadian Championships, Far Western Championships and most recently the TYR Summer Senior Championships. Hailey is a grade 11 student at CCI, where she participates in many different sports. She loves learning new things, as well as helping others learn and improve as well.

Maggie Rhodes Junior Clippers Coach

Maggie has been involved with competitive swimming since the age of 6 when she joined the Star Swimming Swim Club in Buffalo, New York and is now swimming with the Collingwood Clippers. She has been with the Clippers for the last 4 years and has been a senior swimmer for 3 years. Last season Maggie made Provincial and Canadian Junior Nationals and competed the 2019 Canadian Junior Championships in Calgary, competing in the  100 and 200 backstroke. She currently attends Collingwood Collegiate Institute.
