Day 2 of the Titans - International Swim League Match #7

Cascade Office

Budapest, Hungary (08 November 2020) - One of the best thing you are seeing going on from these matches is the, “let’s play ball!” or in our context the, “let’s play swim!” approach and attitude to the sport and the races in the pool - it is very refreshing to see and great for swimming; you get the sense with all the swimming, and especially when watching the same athlete do multiple events in a session, that you are watching something different - a definite “pro-sport” version of our sport that no one has ever been able to put on display before.

Last week, the Titans were in it tough contesting against last season’s champions Energy Standard, DC Trident and the Budapest based home team, Team Iron. They were second after day 1 - could they hold on and scoop up three valuable team points by finishing second or were Team Iron’s Transylvanian Dragons going to end up doing a number on our crew?

What did our man with the Titans, Cole Pratt, swim Friday morning? Pratt was up for the 100m backstroke and the 400IM early on the day 2 morning which were the same set of events that he swam in his previous match. In the 100 back he was last. 8th in the heat of eight in 51.41 - that’s okay though as it doesn’t really tell the whole story of the event which was pretty interesting aside from the fact that it was a lifetime best and done in a pretty tight field with no room for error and one that ended up with barely a half second separating 5th and everyone else up to eight. Here is who he got beat by in the race: Kliment Kolesnikov (ENS - RUS) World Junior Record Holder & World Champion; Roberta Glinta (IRO - ROM) Olympic Finalist; Guilherme Basseto (IRO - BRA) World Championship Finalist; Matt Grevers (ENS - USA) 4x Olympic Gold Medallist; Jacob Pebley (DCT - USA) World Championships Medallist ; Shane Ryan (TOR - IRL) World Championship Medallist; and Mark Nikolaev (DCT - RUS) 5th fastest 50m backstroker (LCM) in the world all-time! Not bad company to keep and not a bad race to stand up in and be counted. “Cole managed to swim to his best in an incredible field of Olympic & World champions,” said coach Dave, “what a great achievement to perform at his best in this environment; ‘performance on demand’ - this is what it is all about - #CascadeRocks!”

Next was the 400IM and Cole was out to collect some points for the Titan crew which he did. 4:13.70 for 6th place and 3 points for the team in overall match standings.
