Coaches and Directors

Nothing has a greater influence on the quality of children's organized sports experience than the excellence of the coaching.

Club Warriors' coaching staff, under the direction of Head Coach Russ Franklin, is comprised of professionally trained, experienced and dedicated staff members.  As member coaches in the Canadian Swimming Coaches Association, they have access to the most comprehensive training and certification program for youth coaches of any sport in Canada.  Club Warriors' coaching staff provides the assurance that the time your children spend in swimming will be quality time.

Coaching Staff

Russ Franklin

Head Coach | Elite and Jr Elite Coach

Russ is a level 3 NCPP coach and has been coaching professionally since 1983.

Coaching History
In over 30 years of coaching, Russ has been the Head Coach of three well-established swim clubs.  The Pointe-Claire Swim Club from 1990 through to 1999; the Beaconsfield Bluefins from 1999 to 2011 and the Region of Waterloo Swim Club from 2011 to 2014.  Russ welcomes the challenge of helping bring Club Warriors to the forefront of competitive swimming.

Russ has coached three swimmers to the Olympic games and is looking at developing the young talent from across the Waterloo Region to do the same.  His technically-based coaching style is exactly what separates him from most coaches.  He has a keen eye for talent and has shown the capacity to develop that talent to the fullest.  His success as a coach is apparent in the multitude of National records his swimmers have broken and the number of National champions that have come out of his programs.

About Russ
Russ and his wife Margot live in Kitchener with their daughter Ren.  His son Rylee still works and lives in Montreal.

Connor Watson

Assistant Head Coach | Intro Program Supervisor | Age Group 3 and 4 Coach

Connor is a Level 2 NCCP In-Training Coach, and in progress of attaining his Level 3 NCCP. He has graduated with a diploma in Physical Fitness Management and an undergraduate degree in Sport and Physical Education from Cambrian College and Laurentian University respectively.

Coaching History
Getting close to his tenth year in coaching, Connor has worked with the Region of Waterloo Swim Club (2011 to 2014) and the Sudbury Laurentian Swim Club (2014 to 2019). In addition to working with the Age Group programs at each club, Connor has also gained experience working with Varsity and Master-level athletes. He has had the opportunity, between the many different groups, to work with athletes at all levels (from introductory swimmers to regional, provincial, and national-level athletes). Another highlight of his coaching career is having twice been able to work with a group of swimmers that participated at the International Children's Games (Windsor 2013 and Lake Macquarie 2014).

Away from the pool, Connor has gained experience coaching other sports, including volleyball, track and field (javelin throw), and rowing.

About Connor
A Kitchener-native, Connor is looking forward to being back in his hometown and close to his family.
