It was a great weekend of racing for Marcus Viloria and the rest of his Delta Sungod Swim Club team mates at the 2019 BC Short Course Age Group Championships.  The meet hosted 450 of the fastest 12 and under females and 13 and under male swimmers in the province.    Vancouver Aquatic Centre was filled new provincial and national swimming records throughout the weekend.

Viloria (12) led the DSSC show with top 8 placings, new club records and new qualifying times.  The meet  was a great stepping stone in his swimming journey.

DSSC swimmers broke two club records over the weekend.  The first by Viloria in the 100 fly,.  The previous boys 11-12 year old 100 fly record was set in July of 2000.  Viloria also broke his own 200 freestyle record by over 6 seconds.  The second record breaker was Kirra Trites (12) in the 400 freestyle.  She bettered her own club record.

Viloria was DSSC’s sole top 8 finisher.  He was 4th in the 100 fly and 200 back, 5th in the 100 back, 6th  in the 100 free and 6th in the 100 free.

For Head Coach Kurt Murphy it was great to see such a large contingent of DSSC swimmers at the meet.  The club brought 10 swimmers to this year’s event which has been the largest 13 and under team to date for Murphy’s tenure as Head Coach.  DSSC team members were: Kayah Apanawicz (12), Jatinder Grewal (11), Harleen Rai (10), Yuvraj Rai (12), Kirra Trites (12), Marcus Hugo Viloria (12), Daniel Wang (11), Michael Yang (13), Max Zha (11) and Lucas Zhang (13).

Max Zha and Marcus Viloria were 100% personal bests this weekend with no disqualifications.

DSSC swimmers will see action again at this season’s BC Provincial championships in Kamloops as well as at their home meet March 16-17 weekend at Sungod Recreation Centre.
