Swimmer Health

This section of the website focusses on the health & wellbeing of our swimmers.

Swimmers sustain injuries, like any other athlete. Prevention, recognition, timely response, treatment and recovery are all steps in the process to maintaining good health and well-being.

Surprisingly, concussions are more common in swimming than one might think from a non-contact sport.  Concussions, however, can and do occur quite regularly. During mass warm-ups, swimmers are packed into lanes and occasionally collide with one another. Backstroke swimmers occasionally miscalculate the distance from the flags to the wall and collide with the wall. These are but a few examples that you may not consider. Slips, trips and falls are common and easily recognised as a mechanism of injury.

Here are several resources we can use as a club to become more aware of concussion recognition and treatment.
