FAST Aquanaut Stream 

 

The goal of the FAST Aquanaut Stream (FAS) is to provide an environment where athletes can learn competitive swimming skills and techniques at their own pace. Swimmers in this Stream will have individual goals, and can range from performance to active for life. Swimmers can decide on their level of commitment based on their own goals.

 

AQUA 1

Swimmers will:

•Be introduced to the competitive swimming environment
•Learn specific skills that are foundational for swimming competitively 
 

Goal: Practice skills in team training environment

Swim Meets

•Premier Meets
•Participation is Optional
•Coach will help swimmer select competitions that will help develop their technical skills

Age/Grade Range

•7-12 years
•Elementary/Middle School

Attendance Requirement

•No requirement unless the swimmer wants to attend swim meets
•60% attendance required to participate in swim meets

Group Outcomes

•Practice etiquette
•Can read clock and follow pace times
•Underwater kick to 5-7m
•Able to swim legal IM races
•Proper streamline and no breath off turns
•Working towards ability to swim all events 50-400

AQUA 2

Swimmers will:

•Practice and expand technical skills needed for swimming competitively
•Develop training aptitude and consistency of strokes

 

Goal: Begin to apply performance skills 

Swim Meets

•Premier & Invitational Meets if qualified
•Participation is Optional
•Coach will help swimmer select competitions that will help develop their technical skills

Age/Grade Range

•9-14 years
•Middle School

Attendance Requirement

•No requirement unless the swimmer wants to attend swim meets
•60% attendance required to participate in swim meets

Group Outcomes

•All strokes and turns legal and consistent
•Ownership of training and conditioning
•Application of drills to stroke technique

AQUA 3

Swimmers will:

Practice and become proficient at the technical skills and tactics needed for swimming competitively
Commit to a more structured and rigorous training regime

 

Goal: Work to maintain consistent strokes technique while intensifying training

Swim Meets

Premier & Invitational Meets if qualified
Participation is Optional
Coach will help swimmer select competitions that will help develop their technical skills

 

Age/Grade Range

11-16 years
Middle/High School

Attendance Requirement

No requirement unless the swimmer wants to attend swim meets
60% attendance required to participate in swim meets

Group Outcomes

Advancing stroke technique and ability to swim all events/strokes
Able to apply simple race tactics and strategy to enhance performance
Training ownership (dryland and water)

AQUA 4

Swimmers will:

Work on a multitude of swim specific skills and strategies
Increase training intensity   

 

Goal: Effectively apply skills and techniques in a variety of training and performance environments

Swim Meets

Invitational, National or International Meets if qualified
Participation is Optional
Coach will help swimmer select competitions that will help develop their technical skills

Age/Grade Range

13-18
High School

No requirement unless the swimmer wants to attend swim meets
60% attendance required to participate in swim meets

FAST Performance Stream

 

The goal of the FAST Performance Stream (FPS) is to provide an environment where athletes can prepare to perform at the highest level of their ability.

To participate as an FPS athlete, swimmers must demonstrate an understanding and acceptance of the rigour and intensity of training and performance expected by the coaches. A positive attitude and attendance are essential; therefore athlete/family commitment is a requirement. See Commitment Contract below.

 

Athletes in the FPS may be moved to the FAS Stream if they do not meet their group’s practice and swim meet commitment requirements.

 

Any swimmer in the FPS who is/becomes injured will be placed on a Modified Training Program (MTP) and may not swim in the FPS until fully recovered.

Aquanaut Performance Junior (APJ)

Swimmers will:

Develop and expand technical skills in an intensified training environment
Learn to train and apply strategies (physical and mental) that will support optimal performance
Have time in any event (short or long course) that is within FAST's Performance Stream Time Requirement.

 

Goal: To enable swimmers to compete at their potential 

Swim Meets

Invitational & higher
Participation is required
Coaches will select meets swimmers must attend based on their skills/development

Age/Grade Range

11-15  years
Middle/High School

Attendance Requirement

90% attendance requirement, strictly adhered to
Expected to train on Holidays and March breaks

Focus on general physical development
Ability to perform in all events
Character development
Intro to performance lifestyle
Display commitment to swimming

Aquanaut Performance Senior (APS)

Swimmers will:

Develop and expand technical skills in an intensified training environment
Train and apply strategies (physical and mental) to maximize performance opportunities

•  Have time in any event (short or long course) that is within FAST's Performance Stream Time Requirement.

 

Goal: To enable swimmers to compete at their potential (nationally/internationally)

Invitational & higher
Participation is required
Coaches will select meets swimmers must attend based on their skills/development

Age/Grade Range

13-18 years
High School

Expected to train on Holiday and March breaks
