Nine Swimmers from the Piranhas Performance Squads attended the Speedo Western Championships in Edmonton last week. The four day competition seen the very best age groupers from western Canada racing against each other for the first time this season. Following a successful Canadian Swimming Trials Jordan Greber has been selected by Swimming Canada to its National Development Team for 2022. Her Provincial age group record breaking performance in the 100m Backstroke in a podium finish during the junior final achieved the qualifying standard to compete for Canada. Jordan will be amoung 36 swimmers (16 males, 20 females) competing for Canada at the Junior Pan Pacific Swimming Championships in Honolulu, Hawaii, Aug. 24-27. Three members from the Performance Squads at the Piranhas attended the Canadian Swimming Trials in Victoria last week. For Ollie Dawson, Marissa Laurin and Jordan Greber it was their first experience of a senior national competition. During the meet Oliver Dawson contested the 100m Breaststroke and 200m Breaststroke posting his fastest ever morning times and finished in the top 30 junior (U18) age catagory. Members of the Grande Prairie Piranhas Swim Club are celebrating what was a historic weekend at the Swim Alberta provincial championship in Edmonton. After three days of provincial competition in various different events, the Piranhas finished the weekend in third place behind the Edmonton Keyano Swim Club and the University of Calgary Swim Club. There were 22 members who competed in the competition and many were able to take home podium finishes and medals. Wow what a weekend for our young swimmers! Our largest ever amount of qualifers made the trip to Spruce Grove to take on the best U10 girls and U11 boys in northern Alberta! At the Last Chance Swim Meet our performance squad swimmers put on a fantastic display in their final prep before Provincial trials and championships. 24 swimmer raced long course setting many new best times that included a first Canadian Junior Championship time for Mikayla Laurin in the 100m Backstroke for 14 year old girls.
