Family Commitment
Family Commitment
The Halifax Trojan Aquatic Club relies on many volunteers to help support our coaches run a successful swim program. Like any non-profit organization, volunteers are essential. From timers and officials at swim meets, to parking lot attendants, chaperoning our travelling swimmers, organizing special events or volunteering at one of our canteens, our engaged volunteers make sure everything runs smoothly for our athletes. We think there is a role for everyone.
The Trojans has been operating for over 50 years; the success of the Club is thanks in large part to our engaged swimmers and their families.
In order to ensure we have the number of volunteers required to run team events we have a volunteer points program. You can find this policy (and all team policies) and a list of job descriptions on the team website here. The purpose of this policy is to encourage each family to volunteer – both on and off the pool deck. More opportunities will be added throughout the year so there are lots of opportunities to earn your volunteer credits, in a variety of ways, without being too onerous.
This policy ensures that we have adequate support to run all of our events. Fortunately, volunteering is also a great way to connect with other swim families and enjoy the hours we spend in an out of the pool.
What you need to know
Each swimmer will be assigned a volunteer point requirement, based on squad placement. Families with more than one swimmer will be required to accumulate the volunteer point requirement of their swimmer at the highest level. All family members, including swimmers, are eligible to earn points towards this requirement. Families are encouraged to consider earning points from at least one HTAC-hosted swim meet throughout the season to ensure our meets run smoothly for athletes, coaches and officials.

Points are assigned a dollar value (1 point equals $50). Families can opt to pay their full Volunteer Fee in cash. For example, a Youth Blue swimmer will be required to earn 8 points, valued at $400. Instead of earning volunteer points, the family can opt to pay the $400. But we’d rather (and need) your time.
Ways to earn points
Families can earn volunteer points through various activities depending on your interest. For example: obtaining swim official certification, acting as an official at HTAC meets or meets held by other teams, helping out at other HTAC events or taking on any of the following roles:
