KCS Hosts BC Provincial Championships, Places 12th Overall

BC Winter Provincial Swimming Championships

March 7-10, 2019.

The Kamloops Classic Swim team hosted the BC Winter Provincial Swimming Championships, March 7-10, 2019. The meet hosted 511 swimmers from 40 swim clubs throughout BC. The Classic’s had 10 of the 16 swimmers competing in the meet make second swims or scored points towards the teams overall 12th place finish in the meet, while winning a total of 7 medals (2 Golds, & 5 Bronze) and setting  3 new club records.

Outstanding performances from the Classic’s came from:  Jack Cameron in the 15 & Under Boys winning the 50 & 100 Freestyles and a Bronze in the 100 Fly. Cameron also placed 8th in the 1500 Free, 7th in the 800 Free, 1st in the consolation final of the 200 Fly and 2nd in the consolation final of the 200 IM.  Diego Paz in the 15 & Under Boys won three Bronze Medals in the 400 & 1500 Freestyles and 400 IM. IN the 1500 Diego qualified for the 2020 Canadian Olympic Trials in Toronto. He also placed 4th in the 200 Fly & 200 IM and 6th in the 800 Free. In the consolation, finals Paz placed 2nd in the 100 Fly.  Sarah Koopmans in the 15 & Over Girls won a Bronze Medal in the 100 Fly. In the Consolation Finals of the 400 IM she placed 4th and 6th in the 200 IM. Sienna Angove in the 14 & Under Girls placed 7th in the 200 Breast. In the consolation finals she placed 2nd in the 400 IM and 4th in the 200 IM. Angove also set new club records in the 200 & 400 IM and the 50 Freestyle leading out a relay.

In the 15 & Over Girls; Haley Rowden placed 8th in the 400 IM. In the consolation finals she placed 1st in the 200 Breast, 2nd in the 100 Breast, 4th in the 200 Fly and 2 in the 200 IM. Rowden also achieved qualifying times for the Western Canadian Swimming Championships in the 100 & 200 Breaststroke events. Keana Smart in the 15 & Over Girls consolation finals she placed in the 100 Back. In the 15 & Under Boys; Jake Gysel in the consolation finals placed 1st in the 100 Breaststroke, while achieving a Western Canadian Championship time standard and 3rd in the consolation final of the 200 Breaststroke. In the 16 & Over Boys;  Michael Dagasso placed 7th in the consolation final of the 400 Freestyle. Trevor Laupland placed 8th in the consolation finals of the 200 Breaststroke. Jackson Litke place 6th in the 200 Back, 5th in both the 100 Fly and 100 backstroke. In the Consolation Finals he placed 5th in the 200 Free and 200 IM.
