2019 Swim BC Provincial Swimming Championship

July 4 – 7, 2019

The Kamloops Classic Swim Team had a very successful Provincial Swimming Championships over the weekend.  The meet saw 584 swimmers from 40 clubs in BC and the Yukon compete over the weekend. The Classic had an outstanding meet with 9 of 15 swimmers making second swims.  The Classics finished 10th overall winning a total of 7 Medals (3 Silvers and 4 Bronze medals) and had 5 new club records set. Leading the classics were:

Jack Cameron (15) in the 15 & Under Boys age group won a Silver Medal in the 50 Free and a Bronze medal in the 100 Freestyle. Cameron also placed 6th in the 200 & 400 Freestyle, 8th in the 200 IM, 7th in the 800 Freestyle Ryley McRae (18) in the 16 & Over Boys age group won a Silver Medal in the 400 Freestyle Bronze medal in the 1500 Freestyle. McRae also placed 7th in the 100 Fly and in the consolation finals he won the 200 Freestyle, 6th in the 100 Freestyle and 7th in the 200 IM. Diego Paz (15) in the 15 & Under Boys age group won a Silver medal in the 200 IM and a Bronze Medal in the 800 Freestyle while qualifying for the Canadian Olympic Trials in the 800 Freestyle. Paz also placed 4th in the 400 Freestyle, 8th in the 200 Breaststroke and 100 Fly. In the consolation finals Paz placed 5th in the 100 Freestyle, Max Angove (14) in the 15 & Under Boys age group placed 7th in the 1500 Freestyle, 10th in the 800 Freestyle. In the consolation finals Angove placed 5th in the 400 Free, 8th in the 200 Free and 4th in the 400 IM. Jake Gysel  (14) in the 15 & Under Boys age group  set two new club records while placing 6th in the 100 Breaststroke and 2nd in the consolation final of the 200 Breaststroke. Sienna Angove (12) in the 14 & Under Girls placed 7th in the 200 Breaststroke and 6th in the 400 IM while setting a new club record. In the consolation finals Angove placed 6th in the 400 Freestyle, 4th in the 200 IM while setting a new club record and 7th in the 100 Backstroke. Angove also set a new club record in the 200 Backstroke. Emily Dagasso (19) in the 15 & Over Girls age group placed in the consolation finals 5th in the 200 Fly & 200 Backstroke. Sarah Koopman (16) in the 15 & Over Girls age group placed 4th in the 100 Fly and in the consolation finals placed 2nd in the 200 & 400 IM events. The final medal of the meet came from the 15 & Under Boys 4 x 50 Freestyle relay consisting of Jack Cameron, Jake Gysel, Diego Paz and Max Angove.

2019 BC Open Water Swimming Championships

The Kamloops Classic Swim Club had 7 swimmers compete in the 2019 BC Open Water Swimming Championships at Thetis Lake in Victoria, Monday, July 8th, 2019. Sienna Angove (12) swimming in the 11& 12 Girls 1 km tied for 3rd place. Max Angove (14) in the 13 & 14 Boys 2 Km race placed 4th While Parker Cameron (13) placed 12th.  Keana Smart (16) in the Women’s 5 km race placed 11th . In the Men’s 5 km race Ryley McRae placed 4th, Jack Cameron  (15) placed 8th and Diego Paz (15) placed 9th .
