KSC will have 2 cohorts, Performance & Senior. Siblings can practice with either cohort but must remain in the cohort they choose for ALL of the workouts in July, there is NO back and forth between the two cohorts. This has nothing to do with move ups for next season. The 2 cohorts will practice separately but may practice at similar times. The Killarney Swim Club is engaging its membership with the best live streaming dryland program. The Staff at KSC have been working hard to create programming that focuses on fitness, stability, flexibility, swimming skills, and continued community social connection. Workouts are designed keeping in mind the long-term athlete development stages. These exercises are appropriate for age, ability, and maturation. Last week, Head to Head Martha McCabe was at Repsol for a visit with the Senior Group. In the pool session she touched on Freestyle technique, having swimmers focus on stroke length and pulling with their forearms (high elbow catch). The swimmers also worked on turn head position in freestyle and dive starts. In the classroom Martha spoke on Managing Nerves with mental skills and routines. Martha will be back this week for both Senior and Performance groups.

The Killarney Swim Club played host to it’s first annual Long Course Invitational. The meet attracted over 400 swimmers from Alberta. KSC had a strong contingent with 115 swimmers. This competition was a heats and finals format, offering a lot of opportunities for first time finalists, medal winners, and Provincial Qualifying. Twenty-seven KSC swimmers took to the waters for the Swim Alberta Winter Festival South. This competition attracted 200 of the top 10 and under girls and 11 and under boys from southern Alberta. Killarney swimmers recorded 104 personal best times and accumulated 19 medal placings. Winning Gold medals were Ethan Ngo (50 Fly), Alan Piatek (100 Fly), Bennett Strom (100 IM), and Evelyn Washbrook (100BK and 100 FR), Silver and Bronze Medalists were: Ranumi Easwarage, Lucas Fursier, Sam MacLean, Jasper Ngo, Pablo Zendejas.

The Killarney Swim Club was in action at the CASC Age Group Challenge Dec 12-14th. The team had a contingent of 69 swimmers. The team performed exceptionally well. KSC finished second in team placing behind host CASC. Killarney swimmers took home 55 medals including 16 Gold! 405 personal best times were achieved by KSC athletes. The Killarney Swim Club was in fine form last weekend at the OSC JP Fiset and CASC Age Group Challenge competitions. In Edmonton, the team was represented by 27 swimmers/Christmas Carolers. KSC was on fire, setting 200 personal best times and singing Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer!
