COACHES REPORT

HOLY SMOKE! Some more very very good swimming last weekend, from our Ontario Junior International swimmers (Hayden, Carter, Lauren, Jack, David and Colin), to our 79-strong contingent at The Team Showdown in Brantford, to our younger swimmers racing at the Holiday Time Trial, some fantastic results and next-level swimming at every event! CONGRATULATIONS EVERYONE - what a great way to finish off the fall training cycle.

Special OJI SHOUT-OUTS to David (silver) and Carter (bronze) for medaling at this very prestigious event at TPASC, both of whom in the process established new club records; to Jack for setting a new club record also; to Hayden, Carter, Jack and Colin for setting new club records in all 3 relay events; and to Hayden, Lauren and Colin for earning B final swims in their first ever participation in this international-calibre field.

Special Team Showdown SHOUT-OUTS to 13-14 boys relay club record-setters Ciaran, Andy, Baris and Ahmed; to first time All-Time Top 10 performers Sonya Demidenok, Baris Kartoglu, Tolga Kartoglu, and James Quigley; and to first time Provincial qualifiers Mireya Bartoch and Kyle Stuckless (Festival and OYJC), Emma Pastrano (Festival), Tony Kim and Martin Todev (OYJC). The team achieved almost 400 personal bests (nearly an 80% succes rate, with 21 swimmers at 100% pb's!), won over 100 individual medals, and showed great spirit throughout the weekend. SPECIAL THANKS to our team travel chaperone LISA LEVY, you are THE BEST! A more complete overview of Team Showdown results will be posted to the "NEWS" section of the website.

Besides the 7 club records broken we had 30 swims between OJI and Team Showdown that rank in the All-Time Top 10. Already this year, we have achieved almost as many All-Time Top 10 performances as we did in all of 2018-19!

Finally, our swimmers at the Holiday time trial also raced well, with many events being successfully completed for the first time, and a super-sized sleigh full of personal bests!

So, one more time, CONGRATULATIONS EVERYONE on a very successful conclusion to the fall training cycle. Now, time to re-group, re-charge and re-focus. Have a happy and safe holiday break and, now that you have a better view from a higher (faster) position,  take some time to think about where you are going to set your sights in 2020! GO LAC GO!

Finally, let us bid a fond farewell to Age Group Blue Coach Rebecca, who has been with us for 3 years and has done a fantastic job with every swimmer she has helped along their path. Rebecca is moving to Victoria, B.C., to pursue her teaching career, and is hoping to continue coaching. Good luck Rebecca - you will be missed.

12 & UNDER MEET

IT’S OFFICIAL!

LAC - Holiday Time TriaL: Thank you to everyone who volunteered at this past weekend’s Holiday Time Trial.  It seemed to go well with lots of happy faces.  We officials are a great team too!  Congratulations to Brad Boulianne on achieving level 2 with 2 sign-offs completed on his 3rd position!

LAC - 12 & Under Celebration (January 18 – 19) - Senior Officials: This meet has a different Competition Coordinator.  Please email your requests to work senior official positions to Denise McDonald at mcdonald.denise.e@gmail.com  Include “12 & Under Celebration” in the subject and tell her the sessions that you are available and the jobs that you would like to work.   Be aware that any time you sign up for a senior position, if that position is not available, you MAY be assigned to any other job that you have the clinic for!  We appreciate your understanding!  If this happens and you are new to that job then please let Denise know so that she can make sure that you have mentorship.  Do not delay!  Denise is already starting to look for outside help!

Other Clinics:  I have not had time to do it yet but I will be planning a few clinics prior to the 12 & Under Celebration and the rest before the Pentathlon in April.  As the clinics are scheduled, Sign-ups will be posted.  If there are clinics that you are specifically looking to get before the 12 and Under Celebration, you can let me know and I will see what I can do.  No guarantees.  Also if there is one that you want but are having difficulty attending.  Let me know why and I can see if we can overcome your circumstances.

Official Registrations – Another reminder.  There are still LAC Officials who have received at least 1 registration email from systems@swimming.ca and have not responded.  It would be helpful if people could watch for these emails and respond to them as instructed.  All you need to do is: sign on to your officials account, click on the My Info at the top, make any changes as required in the info and then even if you do not make any changes scroll to the bottom and click on the Save button.  If the email is from systems@swimming.ca then it is unlikely to be SPAM or Phishing and you can safely respond.  This is REQUIRED in order for us to activate your account.  It is important to LAC that officials are activated in this way as it affects our ability to host meets.

If you have any officiating questions please contact me, Mark Lukings L.A.C. Co-Club Officials Chair at lac.coc@gmail.com
