Fri Dec 13 no Sr Bronze/Blue practice due to WSRC maintenance

Holiday Break Dec 23 to Dec 30. (Senior Gold/Silver start workouts Dec 27 & Senior Bronze/Blue start workouts Dec 29). Regular schedule begins again on Sat Jan 4. The holiday schedule is posted on the LAC website under the “schedule” tab.

More food for thought from, yep, you guessed it, Olivier Poirier Leroy at YourSwimBook:

Over the course of a day we tell ourselves many things: reminders, words of encouragement, words of self-doubt. Swim practice is no different, where you're always riding the roller coaster of thoughts through a session in the pool. One moment we are confident in our abilities, motivated at how we are doing, the next we are doubting ourselves, thinking that all the effort is for naught. A lot of our negative thoughts fly under the radar, barely noticeable, and yet still make a sizable impact. I can’t do that workout. I don’t deserve success. There’s no way I can go that fast. The odd thing is, you would never let someone else talk to you this way, so why should you allow this type of negativity to sprout from within?

Here are 3 common toxic thoughts that every LAC swimmer should avoid:

1. “If I'm struggling I'm failing.”

Often we view struggle as an indication that something is wrong. If we were meant to be accomplishing great things in the pool then it would be easy, right? Nope. Nothing worth attaining comes without some measure of risk, sacrifice, hard work, and yes, struggle. Don’t misinterpret struggle or discomfort as a stop sign. Find the challenge within the struggle and grind on. Remember there will always be hiccups and setbacks. While not everything is in your control, how you react and grind forward is.

2. “I’ll swim like a boss when I feel like it.”

There will always be a reason to not give your best in the pool. The lane is too crowded. Had a stressful day. Didn’t get a good enough warm-upHave a headache. There will never be a perfect time to give your best, never be a perfect set of conditions where you can unleash your full potential. The only “perfect” moment is the one you have in that very moment. If you focus on making hard work a habit, instead of having to psych yourself up every day to get to practice and work hard, it'll become automatic, a habit, and you'll be crushing that tough workout regardless of what kind of day you had otherwise.

3. “I wish I was as tall as Swimmer A, or had the training facilities of Swimmer B.”

It’s hard to look at our competitors and rivals and not be envious of their better training facilities or better genetics and feel a bit jealous. If only we were that tall, or had access to their pool, then we would truly excel. We cannot control how tall we become or where we live, but we can choose to make the most of what we have. Remember that someone will always be looking at you wishing they had your genetic gifts, and your training opportunities. Focus intently on making the absolute most of everything you have been given, and refuse to fall into the mental trap of wishing for the opportunities that have been given to others.

LAC canteen committee is planning a bake sale for the 12 and under meet/ time trial weekend. All proceeds will go to the LAC bursary fund, which is used to help our own LAC families. Any baking donations would be appreciated, but if you aren’t a baker, and would like to help, we will also be taking donations of beverages to be sold (in the form of cases of pop). All funds from this sale will be returned directly to the LAC bursary fund. Email for more information, and watch for signups when available!

Statements will be out today. Any questions or concerns contact Donna at before Dec 14. PAD withdrawals will be Dec 17.

LAC - Holiday Time Trial (December 14) - Senior Officials: Thank you to everyone who responded to my request for Senior Officials.  I have every position filled except the Starter, and maybe a mentor for the Starter, depending on who I get.  If you are interested in being the Starter, and have the clinic, please let me know ASAP.  First come, first served.

LAC - Holiday Time Trial (December 14) - Minor Officials: The sign-ups will be posted this week.  Again, first come, first served.  Please do NOT sign up for Strokes and Turns if you do have NOT taken the clinic.  You are expected to check in at the meet 45 minutes prior to the start of racing.

LAC - 12 & Under Celebration (January 18 – 19) - Senior Officials: This meet has a different Competition Coordinator.  Please email your requests to Denise McDonald at Include “12 & Under Celebration” in the subject and tell her the sessions that you are available and the jobs that you would like to work.   Be aware that any time you sign up for a senior position, if the position is not available, you MAY be assigned to any other job that you have the clinic for!  We appreciate your understanding!  If this happens and you are new to that job then let Denise know so that she can make sure that you have mentorship.

Clinic – Meet Manager (Dec 12): I have had a few people express an interest in becoming a Meet Manager.  I have set up a clinic for Dec 12 at 6:30pm in the pool level meeting room at CGAC, at the bottom of the stairs.  Signups are posted for the 7 spots not taken by the 5 people who this was set up for.  Please ONLY sign up if you can, and will, actually attend the clinic.  Ideally it is for people who have a genuine interest in finding out more about meet management.

Official Registrations – Sorry to keep reminding people about this but I checked on Sunday and there were 50 LAC Officials who have received at least 1 registration email from and have not responded.  It would be helpful if people could watch for these emails and respond to them as instructed.  All you need to do is: sign on to your officials account, click on the My Info tab at the top, make any changes that may be required to your info and then even if you made no changes scroll to the bottom and click on the Save button.  If the email is from    then it is unlikely to be SPAM or Phishing and you can safely respond.  This is REQUIRED in order for us to activate your account.  It is important to LAC that officials are activated in this way as it affects our ability to host meets.

If you have any officiating questions please contact me, Mark Lukings L.A.C. Co-Club Officials Chair at

The Session Credit Policy is posted under the “Parent Info" tab On the LAC website. All returning families and families transferring from another club, please make sure you review the policy and are award of your session credit commitments for the season. Please note that the website lists the sessions as hours: 1 hr. = 1 session.
