Lots of racing going on this weekend, everybody race smart, race tough, and have fun. Those of you going to Brantford for the Team Showdown or the Ontario Junior International in Scarborough, T-shirt rotation is O-N-R, Fri orange, Sat navy, Sun royal!

Here's more from Olivier Poirier Leroy on  TOXIC THOUGHTS TO AVOID!

1. “I couldn't do it before, so I won't do it now.”

When we need reminders of how awesome we can be we need to think of times when we just killed it in practice. Those moments serve as excellent checkpoints in our journey, and remind us that we are capable of amazing swimming. Similarly, when we get into a mental rut, we tend to think back to the times when we tried but came up short. We search back through our performance history seeking confirmation that we aren't good enough, unfairly focussing on past mistakes. We need to develop a selective memory, focus more on the GREAT swims, learn the lessons from past failures without dwelling on them, and apply those lessons moving forward.

2. “What will so-and-so think.”

How often have you stopped short of doing a little bit more at workout, or stopped fully chasing your dream, because you were worried what someone else would think? The reality is you will always be your harshest critic. You may think other people sit around all day thinking about you and judging your actions, but you know what? They don't. It's completely likely they don't give a second thought to whatever it is you're doing. So do what's going to bring you closer to your goals. If people are dead set on judging you, it's their problem, not yours. Don't allow the opinions of others to influence your performance in the pool.

3. “I missed my opportunity. It's too late.”

No matter where you are in your swimming, and what you hope to accomplish, you can always make a change. Simply because you're frustrated that you haven't progressed fast enough doesn't mean you should squander the opportunities in front of you. Instead of worrying that you didn't start yesterday or last week, focus on starting right now. It's never too late! And, NOT THIS TIME does not mean NEVER!

Check the "NEWS" section of our website for a great article on Maggie MacNeil, named this week by Swimming Canada as "Breakout Swimmer of the Year".

LAC canteen committee is planning a bake sale for the 12 and under meet/ time trial weekend. All proceeds will go to the LAC bursary fund, which is used to help our own LAC families. Any baking donations would be appreciated, but if you aren’t a baker, and would like to help, we will also be taking donations of beverages to be sold (in the form of cases of pop). All funds from this sale will be returned directly to the LAC bursary fund. Email for more information, and watch for signups when available!

Any questions or concerns contact Donna at before Dec 14. PAD withdrawals will be Dec 17.

LAC - Holiday Time Trial (December 14) - Senior Officials: Thank you to everyone who responded to my requests for Senior Officials, and specifically for Starter last week.  We are now all set for senior officials for Saturday.

LAC - Holiday Time Trial (December 14) - Minor Officials: The sign-ups were posted.  As usual for a 1-session meet they filled in minutes.  Sometimes people remove their sign-up or have to cancel at the last minute. If you did not get a job but wanted one, check the sign-ups every now and then to see if any spots have opened up.  Also, you can come to the meet prepared to work and check with the minor officials coordinator to see if they need anyone.  A reminder that Timers, Chief Timekeepers and Assistant Chief Timekeepers wear white shirts.  All other officials wear red shirts.  Not as important at a time trial but still helpful.  You might as well get used to it.  Another reminder that officials are expected to check in at the meet, in the entry level meeting room, 45 minutes prior to the start of racing.

LAC - 12 & Under Celebration (January 18 – 19) - Senior Officials: This meet has a different Competition Coordinator.  Please email your requests for working senior official positions to Denise McDonald at Include “12 & Under Celebration” in the subject and tell her the sessions that you are available and the jobs that you would like to work.   Be aware that any time you sign up for a senior position, if that position is not available, you MAY be assigned to any other job that you have the clinic for!  We appreciate your understanding!  If this happens and you are new to that job then please let Denise know so that she can make sure that you have mentorship.

Clinic – Meet Manager (Dec 12): I have had a few people express an interest in becoming a Meet Manager.  I have set up a clinic for Dec 12 at 6:30pm in the pool level meeting room at CGAC, at the bottom of the stairs.  Please ONLY sign up if you can, and will, actually attend the clinic.

Other Clinics:  I will be planning a few clinics prior to the 12 & Under Celebration and the rest before the Pentathlon in April.  If there is one that you are specifically looking to get before the 12 and Under Celebration, you can let me know and I will see what I can do.  No guarantees.  Also if there is one that you want but are having difficulty attending.  Let me know why and I can see if we can overcome your circumstances.

If you have any officiating questions please contact me, Mark Lukings L.A.C. Co-Club Officials Chair at
