COACHES REPORT

There was some outstanding racing last weekend at three different locations for close to 100 LAC'ers! More details will follow in the NEWS section of the website but highlights from OSC's in Scarborough include Lauren Campbell and Colin Shearer both qualifying for Olympic Trials, Carter Buck winning gold in both backstroke events and setting a club record in the 100, and Alana Skilling racing to PB's in all 6 of her individual events at her first-ever OSC's as well as her first time Canadian Junior Championship qualification. Highlights from OYJC's in Markham include 16 swimmers achieving 100% personal bests, Jacob Seddon tying for the 13/u boys high point award winning 2 gold and 1 bronze medals, Esther Lu establishing a club record in the 12/u girls 100m backstroke, Ciaran Buyse achieving his first Eastern Canadian Championship time (along with Jacob and Esther), and our team finishing 3rd overall on the strength of 19 individual medals (9G-3S-7B), 3 relay medals (1G-1S-1B), 13 additional swimmers finishing in the top 10 in an individual event, and 15 out of our 18 relay teams scoring big points! A GREAT TEAM EFFORT in Markham! And in Wilmot our 50+ swimmers raced to 225 personal bests and a best times conversion rate of almost 70%, with 17 swimmers achieving 100% pb's, and 28 swimmers placing in the top 3 in over 70 races! And congratulations to both Cameron Burston and Idel Shafikov, who achieved their first-ever Regional Championship qualifying times.

For many of you who competed last weekend, it was a great way to finish off the winter season, and motivate you to work even harder toward your summer objectives. Our Trials and Eastern Canadian Championship swimmers will be training hard over the March Break - everyone else, enjoy a restful, quiet, healthy week away from the pool in preparation for a great spring and summer of swimming!

IT’S OFFICIAL!

Upcoming LAC Hosted Meets – Senior Officials Needed:  Do NOT be afraid!  I host about 21 clinics every season and I can see who has taken them.  There are a lot of you out there!  If you have taken clinics and have never tried the job, then you don’t know what you are missing.  If you want to try some of these but are new then tell me that in your email and we will make sure that you have a mentor.  I consider all of our LAC meets to be teaching meets.  NO ONE starts as an expert.  Your skills develop over time!  You can have a mentor for more than your first time in a job.  Just let me know!  Assigned mentor or not, there are always people around to help and provide advice.  Our next 2 home meets are the LAC – Long Course Pentathlon on Sunday, April 5 and the LAC – Hollandia Spring Invitational on Thursday, May 7 to Sunday, May 10.  Between the 2 meets there are 12 sessions.  There is a lot of opportunity.  If you would like to help as a Senior Official at one, or both, of these meets, then you must have taken the clinic(s) for the job(s) that you are interested in and you must send one email per meet to the Competition Coordinator (me for both of these meets) with the name of the meet in the subject, the sessions that you are available, and the jobs that you would like to work listed in the email.  If you know that you will be taking the clinic prior to a meet then you can sign up for that job prior to taking the clinic but, if you do not get the clinic prior to the meet, then you will not be able to do the job.

Upcoming Clinics: Just 4 clinics left.  See below for the list of clinics.  All of the clinics will be held in the CGAC meeting room at the bottom of the stairs at Pool Level.  This room has a capacity of about 14 so first come first served BUT please do not sign up unless you are really going to attend and, ideally, you are planning on actually trying the job.  You can take the clinics in any order.  If you want to take them all then just sign up and come out!
