Oliver Poirier Leroy has an article titled "35 Ways To Become A Better Swimmer". We're not going to burden you with all 35 in this space, but here are five that the coaches think are worth every swimmer's consideration and attention: 1)Do one thing better today: Excellence doesn't happen in big chunks - do one thing better today than you did yesterday. Repeat as necessary.  2)Maximize your time in the pool: You don't need more workouts - you need to be more focused with what you already have.  3)Tackle big things one small step at a time: Olympians aren't built overnight. Aim for progression and improvement, not overnight results.  4)Work hard: You can't control talent. Or genetics. But you know what you have control over? EFFORT!  5)Be grateful: You get to swim. Remember that, especially when you're feeling sorry for yourself.

CONGRATULATIONS to Lauren Campbell, who was selected to and participated in a Swim Ontario Female Prospects Camp at the Pan-Am Pool in Scarborough last weekend.

2019 LAC Fall Startup – October 20 - Senior Officials Are Set – Thank you to everyone who has volunteered to be a senior official at our first meet.  Much appreciated.  The assignments have been sent and the people who were not needed have been told and thanked.  If you offered but have not received anything then please let me know.

Clinics – I set up 3 clinics last week.  Please see below for more.  Sign-ups will be available shortly if that are not already posted on the LAC home page.  Everyone is welcome to sign-up but session credits are only given the FIRST time you take each clinic.  We have records going back years.  Still, if you want a refresher, feel free.  Please do not sign up if you are NOT going to attend.  Below are the dates.  Be aware that the Starter clinic is for the position of Starter, the person who stands on the podium and says, ”Take your marks!”  The Introduction Clinic, sometimes known as the Timer Clinic, is the one that everyone agrees to take when they sign up with LAC in their first year.  The Introduction clinic includes Safety Marshal and you CANNOT be a Safety Marshal without it.  If you would like to see a brief summary of these jobs are then log into the LAC website and then click on this link:

Official Registrations – When we register you in the Swim Canada website as an official or when returning officials are reactivated by Swim Canada, each official will receive an email from with instructions on how to complete the activation of your account.  Please do not ignore this email.  Follow the instructions to log onto you account, review the information for correctness and then go to the My Info tab and click on SAVE even if nothing was changed.  This is REQUIRED in order for us to activate your account.  It is important to LAC that officials are activated in this way as it affects our ability to host meets.  There were people who received the letter 7 or more times last season and never responded.  It would be very helpful if we did not have to chase people.

If you have any officiating questions please contact me, Mark Lukings L.A.C. Co-Club Officials Chair at
