Monday October 14 -ALL Groups - NO WORKOUTS – Thanksgiving pools closed

Friday October 25 - Senior Bronze/Blue - NO WORKOUT - WSRC closed for maintenance

This ran in last year's newsletter right around the same time, and we feel it is important to send out again as we start down the 2019-20 path.

A few reminders about the London Aquatic Club:

1. Our mission statement is: “To provide opportunities for all to be the best they can be in a positive, caring, and safe environment.” We are proud to tell you that all of our coaches are coach-certified and safety-trained, or working towards it, have successfully completed a mandatory Vulnerable Sector Check or Offence Declaration Form, and are working on completing the new Respect in Sport for Activity Leaders e-module that will be mandatory for all coaches to have completed by September 2020.

2. In broad strokes, the primary objective in the Development program is “Learn to Swim”; in the Age Group program is “Learn to Train”; and in the Senior program is “Learn to Race.” However, the coaches strive to consistently teach in all three of these key areas at all levels of the club.

3. Two of our main messages to our swimmers, on the training side: a) “The only place where success comes before work is in the dictionary.” Your child will learn the value of hard work – our coaches praise hard work over talent. b)”Whether you think you can or think you can’t, you’re right.” Your child will learn the importance of self-confidence, self-reliance, and the power of positive thinking. A great work ethic and a positive attitude will take you far, in swimming but more importantly in life.

4. Two other messages we consistently bring home to our swimmers, regarding the competition side: a) “You can be a winner without placing first” and b) “It can be a good race without being a personal best.”  As in life, so in swimming: take pride in the victories and successes, but remember we learn more from our setbacks and disappointments. Use failures as stepping stones, not stopping points, and remember: The comfort zone is a beautiful thing but nothing ever grows there. If you're not failing, you're not growing.

2019 LAC Fall Startup – October 20 - Senior Officials Needed – At the present time I need a Chief Timekeeper and a Timing System Operator.  If anyone knows how to do these, is available, and is willing, please email me to let me know.  Also, right now I have Shawn Smith, Brad Boulianne, Cara Maar, Ian Skilling and Juan Bello signed up for positions.  Thank you!  I thought I had another but I cannot find the email so if you emailed and your name is NOT in the list above then please forward your initial email back to me again.

Clinics – I have set up 3 clinics so far.  Everyone is welcome to sign-up but session credits are only given the first time you take each clinic.  Still, if you want a refresher, feel free.  Please do not sign up if you are not going to attend.  Below are the dates.  The sign-ups will be posted on the LAC website soon, if they are not already there by the time you read this.  More clinics will be announced next week.  Be aware that the Starter clinic is for the position of Starter, the person who stands on the podium and says, ”Take your marks!”  The Introduction clinic is the one that everyone agrees to take when they sign up with LAC in their first year.  The Introduction clinic includes Safety Marshal and you CANNOT be Safety Marshal without it.

Introduction to Swimming Officiating – Thursday, October 10, 7:00 – 9:00 PM, CGAC-entry level meeting room

Judge of Strokes and Turns – Friday, October 11, 6:00 – 9:00 PM, CGAC-entry level meeting room

Starter Clinic – Wednesday, October 16, 6:30 – 8:30 PM, CGAC-Pool level meeting room

New Rules For 2019/20 - Photography – on the deck has only EVER been allowed by pre-authorized people.  Flash photography has ALWAYS been prohibited during the start.  This year no photography of ANY kind is allowed during the start if taken from an angle that places photographer behind the swimmers.  That means from anywhere in the building or even from outside the building through the windows.  Nothers will be a trick because half of the building is behind the swimmers for the shallow end starts.  Penalties for repeated violations can escalate to removal from the facility and the police being called to escort you out or, in the right circumstances, arrest you.  Of course monitoring this will be a huge challenge.  Please be aware and let others know.  This is a province wide rule.

If you have any officiating questions please contact me, Mark Lukings L.A.C. Co-Club Officials Chair at

The Session Credit Policy is posted under the “Parent Info" tab On the LAC website. All returning families and families transferring from another club, please make sure you review the policy and are award of your session credit commitments for the season.

Information for ordering swimmer equipment can be found on the LAC website under the “swimmer equipment” tab.
