2020-21 NEWSLETTER 22

Boys&Girls Club (BGCL) practices re-start on Friday, February 26. The schedule for this weekend has some changes that should have been sent to you by the group coahes. Otherwise, the practice schedule we were following in December before the 2nd lock-down commenced is in place. There may be changes to the schedule as we move forward. The practice schedule can be found in the "SCHEDULES" tab on the website.

Virtual dryland workouts remain listed on the LAC-TIVE Home Fitness Page on the LAC website. Please remember that cardio cycling classes will continue to be offered, on Wednesdays from 4:00-5:00pm for AG Gold/Silver and all senior groups, and on Sundays, 10:15-10:45am for AG Blue, AG Bronze and AG Orange, and from 11am-noon for AG Gold/Silver and all senior groups. We encourage everyone to attend at least one of these complementary cardio sessions.

The former March Break week (March 15-19) we will be following regular training schedule. The schedule for the new April Break will be published as soon as we have more information from City of London.

We are planning for race simulations (and hopefully some official time trials) for the Easter weekend (Good Friday April 2 and/or Easter Sunday April 4).

An important concept for senior swimmers to understand is the importance of self-reflection. Here's a quote shared by Natascha during last Sunday's mental skills Zoom:  “Athletes can only improve by being self-reflective. Athletes who don’t take time for this never achieve their potential. When they win, they forget what made that possible and so don’t learn from the success. When they lose, they get down on themselves and don’t learn anything from the loss.”   After each performance athletes need to review what they did – every time. Using a logbook or journal is critical to achieving one’s potential. If you want some ideas on how to effectively evaluate your performances and keep a record of them, whether in practice or competition, check the "Coaches Corner" section of the website then look in the Natascha Wesch Mental Performance Seminars sub-tab.

Valu Village FUNDrive

Valu Village accepts clothing donations and pays the donor on a "per pound" basis. Please start gathering up any used clothing you wish to donate and put it in garbage bags. Clothing drop off will be in the Banting High School parking lot between 8-9am on Saturday April 17, where it will be loaded into a rented truck and delivered to Valu Village at 10am. The club receives a $100 voucher for the rental truck if we collect 2000lbs of used clothing.

FUNDrive is an eco-friendly "Spring Cleaning” opportunity - ask your neighbours, family, gym buddies, work mates, etc., to donate. It makes a differencenot just for the community but for LAC.

North Country Meats

Our second meat fundraiser will happen this spring, with product delivery planned for Saturday May 15. The same protocols and procedures will be in place as for our first, very successful, campaign.

Stay tuned for more details on both of these great opportunities to help keep LAC financially viable in these uncertain times.

Hi everyone!  Only 5 new Covid cases on Monday!  Great!  You are probably wondering what might be coming up in the way of racing!

Well, if things progress positively, wait no, negatively, er . . . well, in the right direction, Andrew and the coaching team will get the swimmers race-ready and if we are still red at that point, we will have race simulations.  If we go back to orange, yellow, or green, and we have the blessing of Swim Ontario, we will be able to restart Stage 1 of the Return to Racing Framework where we can host In House Racing events to record and upload official results to Swimming Canada.

What happens after that is up to the people of Ontario, the virus, the vaccine rollout, and Swim Ontario.  There are 4 stages in the Return to Racing Framework and we have yet to get past stage 1.

I am still hoping we can host at least one invitational later this season.  I guess we shall see how that goes!

Please remember that any individual swim equipment purchases you make on the AllTides website using our LAC coupon code result in a kickback to the club, received at the end of the year. Last year the club received almost $1000 through this arrangement, most of which was put toward the purchase of dryland training equipment.
