2020-21 NEWSLETTER 15

There will be NO in Water Workouts until the Ontario Lockdown has been lifted.

Dryland workouts are listed on the LAC-TIVE Home Fitness Page on the LAC website.

Happy New Year everyone! As famous (well, famous to the parents anyway!) rocker Jon Bon Jovi said: "When you can't do what you do, you do what you can." And so, while it's 100% lousy that we're in another lockdown, we are 100% happy to report that almost everyone has started out doing a really terrific job with the dryland programming, virtual and otherwise, that is being provided. Many thanks to our Strength & Conditioning Coach Cassie Ellis for yet again putting so much work into designing a comprehensive menu of activities to keep the swimmers active and engaged, and to Senior Bronze 2 Coach Gabbi Whitlock for offering 3x weekly cardio cycling sessions. We had 95 swimmers participate in yesterday's class from 4-5pm! Our coaches are meeting at least weekly with their respective groups to also help keep our swimmers connected, and our Board of Directors continues to work through various scenarios, with utmost diligence and transparency, that will hopefully help see the club through to the other side of the pandemic, whenever that may be. Everyone stay positive, stay patient, and stay persistent - together we will come through this tougher, stronger and more resilient.

By all accounts, the LAC – Holiday Race Simulations went very well on Saturday, December 19.  I had a fun time watching some great races from the office while running the timing system and saving and posting the unofficial times!  Nice job swimmers! Thanks to the set-up crew (me and Andrew) and thanks to Ian Skilling for helping to tear down!

With the current lockdown, the LAC - Ball Drop Race Simulations on December 31 were cancelled, and any hopes of racing on the traditional 12 & Under Celebration weekend are gone as well.  The next LAC meet in a normal year would be the LAC – Pentathlon in April, which was also the first meet cancelled last year.  If things turn around and we have an opportunity before April, we could see more race simulations and if things go very well, maybe another In-house Competition.

I had hopes of starting on-line official’s clinics this month, but I prefer to have some hope that the students will get to use their knowledge to lock it in before it starts to seep away.  Clinics will come when we know a date when we can start to schedule meets again.

Let’s hope that people behaved over the holidays, 28 days of lockdown are enough, and practices can resume on January 25.  This official’s entry in the newsletter may be intermittent until then.

We encourage all swimmers to have an extra cap and goggles, the coaching staff will not be allowing swimmers to borrow caps and goggles at this time. If you require a new LAC swim cap, a coach will give your swimmer a new cap at work-out and we will add $12.00 to your swimmer account and it will be taken out of your account with your monthly fees. You can find your swim equipment information on our website when you are logged in: https://www.teamunify.com/team/canlac/page/swimmer-equipment.

We will be placing another bulk order for spirit wear at the end of January. Our team store will be open from January 18-31 if you wish to place orders. A reminder that any individual swim equipment purchases you make on the AllTides site using our LAC coupon code result in a kickback to the club, received at the end of the year. Last year the club received almost $1000 through this arrangement, most of which was put toward the purchase of dryland training equipment. You are helping the club by making your swim equipment purchases through AllTides. If you have any questions regarding All Tides orders or product concerns, please contact the following email address [email protected]
