2020-21 NEWSLETTER 39

We are back in the water - hooray! Our current practice schedule at Gibbons Park concludes this week. Due to City of London pool staff training, THERE ARE NO PRACTICES Mon June 28, Tue June 29, or Wed June 30. The new practice schedule for July, including practices at both Gibbons and Thames Park, starts on Canada Day, Thu July 1 and runs through Fri July 23. We are also planning on swimming in some form on Sat July 24 and/or Sun July 25. This will conclude the year for our Age Group and Development swimmers. The July schedule is now posted on the website in the "SCHEDULES" tab.

Our senior swimmers will be offered an optional additional 3 weeks of training from Mon July 26 through Sat Aug 14, at an additional cost. This will be by sign-up, to give us an idea as to how many senior swimmers wish to continue swimming through to mid-August. All swimmers currently registered in senior groups who are interested in swimming through the summer (until Aug 14) are asked to email [email protected]  no later than July 1 to confirm their intent to participate. We ask that you include in your email of intent that you include any planned holidays, to help us better manage our group sizes. Once we have numbers confirmed a training schedule and fee will be published. If we do not hear from you by July 1 we will assume that you are not participating in the additional 3 weeks of programming.

The virtual dryland program for our Sr Bronze, Age Group and Development swimmers will conclude on Wed June 30. Virtual dryland will continue for SrGold and SrSilver on Wednesdays from 3-4pm through to July 21 inclusive.

Lots of great swimming at the Canadian Trials this week. Special congratulations to Maggie MacNeil on her victory in the 100m butterfly and 3rd place finish in the 100m freestyle, Kathryn Ivanov on her 7th place showing in the 100m breaststroke in club record time, Carter Buck on his club record in the 100m backstroke, as well as to our other Trials competitors Shona Branton, Jack Haycock, David Hickey, Charis Huddle, and Brett Liem. You all did us very proud and, perhaps most importantly, you all demonstrated outstanding commitment and responsibility in following COVID protocols throughout your training journey.

Thank you to those of you who attended last week's virtual AGM. We want to acknowledge and thank out-going board member Mike Buck for his years of great work on behalf of the club, and we also welcome in-coming board member Nicole Chambers.  If you have any questions please contact me at [email protected]

Please remember that any individual swim equipment purchases you make on the AllTides website using our LAC coupon code result in a kickback to the club, received at the end of the year. Last year the club received almost $1000 through this arrangement, most of which was put toward the purchase of dryland training equipment. You are helping the club by making your swim equipment purchases through AllTides.
