Value Village FUNDrive

Hopefully the garbage bags are piling up?! Value Village also accepts housewares that are no larger than 18 inches in length (these should go in boxes). Clothing earns $0.15/lb and housewares $0.10/lb. Drop off will be in the Banting High School parking lot between 8-9am on Saturday April 17, where it will be loaded into a rented truck and delivered to Valu Village at 10am. The club receives a $100 voucher for the rental truck if we collect 2000lbs of used clothing.  If you plan to participate, please sign up as soon as possible (before April 1st) on the "EVENTS" page of the website - currently there are only 10 families who have signed up. Indicate approximately how many bags of used clothing you'll be donating, as Value Village needs to plan for the delivery of our donation. FUNDrive is an eco-friendly "Spring Cleaning” opportunity - ask your neighbours, family, gym buddies, work mates, etc., to donate. It makes a difference not just for the community but for LAC. The Whitby Swim Club in Toronto raised $2400 last month, delivering 750 bags of clothing and 300 boxes of housewares - let's see if we can top that!

North Country Meats

Our second meat fundraiser will happen this spring, with product delivery planned for Saturday May 15. The same protocols and procedures will be in place as for our first, very successful, campaign. We sold 568 boxes of meet back in November, netting the club $3400 and also helping offset membership fees - our rallying cry for the spring campaign is "Fill The Truck!" This means 1000 boxes of meat sold.

Thanks for your support of these great opportunities to help keep LAC financially viable in these uncertain times.

Hi Again!  It’s less than 2 weeks until the Easter Weekend Time Trials and Race Simulations!  We are still looking for officials.

Race Simulations: As far as Swim Ontario is concerned Race Simulations are practices.  We can do whatever is allowed in a practice. Having ANYONE on deck at a practice, besides coaches and swimmers, is NOT allowed.  That includes officials.  Not allowed!

Time Trials: On the other hand, Time Trials are sanctioned events and we MUST have a minimum complement of officials to run those.

Senior Officials: I need officials to run the timing system, be the Starter and be Chief Timekeeper (CT) or Clerk of Course (CofC).  Either of these last 2 positions may convert to substitute in as timer or S&T as required.  The Timing system operator can work up to 3 sessions so I need at least 2 of those.  Starter, CT, and CofC can only work 1 session.  There are 4 sessions.  I need a minimum of 10 officials for these senior positions.  Currently I have 3 and none of those are timing system operators.

The nature of officiating is that it takes some time to develop officials.  It will always be true that on average the senior officials tend to have more senior swimmers.  This set of Time Trials puts me in a hard place.  They are mostly younger swimmers.  I am really hoping that some parents who are qualified will come out to help in a session (or 2 if you can run the timing system) where their swimmer is not participating.  I can assure you that officials were doing that for your swimmer’s sessions when they were younger.  If you are qualified and willing please email me ASAP.  Please specify if you have any preferences re. sessions or positions.

Minor Officials - Judges of Strokes and Turns (S&T) and Timers:  Again, they are only needed/allowed for the Time Trials.  We need a minimum of 6 per session, but better 7 or 8 to have spares.  There should be 2 S&T on each end.  Donna is taking volunteers and trying to keep them within the same practice bubbles.  If your swimmer is not in one of the time trials, but you would be willing to help at one of them, please contact Donna and/or me and we will contact you if needed.

Notice that the Saturday morning simulation has moved to Sunday with a more comfortable start time.

Time Trials:

April 2, 10:00 AM Warm-Up – Age Group Bronze
April 2, 12:30 PM Warm-Up – Age Group Orange
April 4, 10:00 AM Warm-Up – Senior Bronze 2 and Age Group Blue
April 4, 12:30 PM Warm-Up – Age Group Silver

Race Simulations:

April 2, 2:30 PM Warm-Up – Development
April 2, 4:30 PM Warm-Up – Senior Bronze 1
April 4, 8:00 AM Warm-Up – Senior Gold/Silver
April 4, 2:30 PM Warm-Up – Age Group Gold
April 4, 5:00 PM Warm-Up – Senior Gold – Trials Swimmers (Long Course)

We are still hoping that we can host at least one real invitational later this season.

If you have any officiating questions please contact Mark Lukings, L.A.C. Co-Club Officials Chair at [email protected]

We will be placing a spring Spiritwear order in the near future. Please remember that any individual swim equipment purchases you make on the AllTides website using our LAC coupon code result in a kickback to the club, received at the end of the year. Last year the club received almost $1000 through this arrangement, most of which was put toward the purchase of dryland training equipment. You are helping the club by making your swim equipment purchases through AllTides. If you have any questions regarding All Tides orders or product concerns, please contact the following email address [email protected]
