COACHES REPORT

We are excited about the prospect of running four official time trials and an additional five race simulations over the Easter weekend. Please make sure you are indicating your availability through sign-up in the "Upcoming Events" tab. It appears all groups are fully back into "the swim", and it's not going to take very long at all for all of you to be back at the levels you were at in December. As frequently mentioned here, with all of these training stops and re-starts, please remember that this is a long road (it's a marathon not a sprint) and simply take things one day at a time, one step at a time. There has been much talk about the "silver linings" to COVID-19, the seeming positive outcomes from something so terrible, and certainly RESILIENCE is something we are all growing due to the pandemic - the ability to be flexible and adaptable and yet remain strong and focussed and determined. So everyone continue to keep their guard up, and stay resilient!

On that, sadly both Swim Canada and Swim Ontario have announced there will be no in-person championship competitions in the summer of 2021, with the exception of the Olympic/Paralympic Trials events. Both organizations are working on the development of "virtual" events, whereby results from "in-house" competitions will be compiled provincially and nationally and, who knows, perhaps even provincial and national "virtual champions" in the various age categories will be crowned. There may even be a "virtual" Regional Championship. So everyone keep training smart and tough, and be ready for your "in-house" events when they come.

"If you STAY ready, you don't need to GET ready."

FUNDRAISING

Value Village FUNDrive

Hopefully everyone's gathering up their used clothing and filling up garbage bags! Value Village will also accept housewares that are no larger than 18 inches in length (these should go in boxes). Clothing earns $0.15/lb and housewares $0.10/lb. Drop off will be in the Banting High School parking lot between 8-9am on Saturday April 17, where it will be loaded into a rented truck and delivered to Valu Village at 10am. The club receives a $100 voucher for the rental truck if we collect 2000lbs of used clothing.  If you plan to participate sign up before April 1st on the "EVENTS" page of the website until - please indicate how many bags of used clothing you'll be donating, as Value Village needs to plan for the delivery of our donation. FUNDrive is an eco-friendly "Spring Cleaning” opportunity - ask your neighbours, family, gym buddies, work mates, etc., to donate. It makes a difference not just for the community but for LAC. The Whitby Swim Club in Toronto raised $2400 last month, delivering 750 bags of clothing and 300 boxes of housewares - let's see if we can top that!

North Country Meats

Our second meat fundraiser will happen this spring, with product delivery planned for Saturday May 15. The same protocols and procedures will be in place as for our first, very successful, campaign. We sold 568 boxes of meet back in November, netting the club $3400 and also helping offset membership fees - our rallying cry for the spring campaign is "Fill The Truck!" This means 1000 boxes of meat sold.

Stay tuned for more details on both of these great opportunities to help keep LAC financially viable in these uncertain times.

IT’S OFFICIAL!

Happy Orange!  As long as we stay Orange or better we are going to try to make the most of it!  As hinted last week we are planning on having 4 Sanctioned Time Trials and 5 Race simulations on Easter weekend.  The simulations do not have officials, just one person running both the timing system and the software to collect the unofficial results and I already have a good idea who will be doing that.

For each of the Time Trials we will have a minimum complement of minor officials.  Donna will be contacting parents of participants in each session to try to staff those positions from within the same practice bubble.

For senior officials at each session I need to fill 4 positions 1) Timing System Operator, 2) Starter, 3) Chief Timekeeper and 4) Clerk of Course or Assistant Chief Timekeeper.  The Referee duties will be performed by the Competition Coordinator and the collection of times by the Meet Manager. If anyone is qualified and available for one of the 4 positions, even of you do not have a swimmer in the session, please let me know.  I also wouldn’t mind having some stand-by officials who I could call in, in the event that I have no shows or screening turn-aways.

Time Trials:

  1. April 2, 10:00 AM Warm-Up – Age Group Bronze
  2. April 2, 12:30 PM Warm-Up – Age Group Orange
  3. April 4, 10:00 AM Warm-Up – Senior Bronze 2 and Age Group Blue
  4. April 4, 12:30 PM Warm-Up – Age Group Silver

Race Simulations:

  1. April 2, 2:30 PM Warm-Up – Development
  2. April 2, 4:30 PM Warm-Up – Senior Bronze 1
  3. April 3, 5:30 AM Warm-Up – Senior Gold/Silver
  4. April 4, 2:30 PM Warm-Up – Age Group Gold
  5. April 4, 5:00 PM Warm-Up – Senior Gold (Long Course)

We are still hoping that we can host at least one real invitational later this season.

If you have any officiating questions please contact Mark Lukings, L.A.C. Co-Club Officials Chair at [email protected]

ALL TIDES

We are hoping to place a spring Spiritwear order in the near future. Please remember that any individual swim equipment purchases you make on the AllTides website using our LAC coupon code result in a kickback to the club, received at the end of the year. Last year the club received almost $1000 through this arrangement, most of which was put toward the purchase of dryland training equipment. You are helping the club by making your swim equipment purchases through AllTides. If you have any questions regarding All Tides orders or product concerns, please contact the following email address [email protected]
