2020-21 NEWSLETTER 9

Congratulations one final time to everyone on some great results in 2019-20, as acknowledged last Sunday during our Virtual Awards Ceremony. All of the slides from the awards ceremony are on the website in the "NEWS" section, and the coaches are in the process of distributing awards to swimmers. If you'd like a jpg image of any slide please let us know and we'll happily send to you. And many thanks to Coach Shannon for her help with the slides and presentation.

We've moved into November, and are now 9 weeks into our club-wide re-start (18 weeks if you started on July 6 in Stage 1 Return to Swimming). With competitions as we know (and love) them still not on the near horizon, it can be tough some days to stay focussed and purposeful in your training. This is when everyone needs a reminder that "Nothing big ever happens in practice." It's paying attention to the tiny (and boring) details of your practice that will lead to some exciting results somewhere, sometime, down the road in 2021. Mary T. Meagher is a famous American swimmer, who set the world record in the 200 butterfly in 1981 with a time of 2:05.91, a record that stood for almost 20 years. When she was asked once what the biggest misconception about elite swimmers was, she responded: "People don't understand how ordinary success is."  It's not extraordinary or super-human, it's really pretty simple: come to practice, focus on one or two little things in every practice, do them over and over again correctly and consistently, and you will reap the rewards.

November 3 – 15 - ALL forms and money must be submitted by November 18th and delivery will be Saturday November 28th in the CGAC parking lot.

Sell boxes of frozen meat and seafood to friends, neighbours, co-workers and family…and best of all, stock your own freezer! This program is offered through North Country Meats, which is the fundraising arm of MacGregor Meats. For each box of meat sold by a family, 50% of the profit will go to LAC, the other 50% will be applied as a credit towards reducing your swim fees (please note, money raised by swimmers can not be taken as cash, only as a credit towards your account)

LAC needs your support…with no swim meets to date, we have not been able to raise important funds to support our programs. We also believe that this is an excellent way to help families reduce their swim fees!

Please note: All families will be responsible for delivering their meat orders to their customers. We are hoping that every family can sell a minimum of 5 boxes of meat to help make this fundraiser a great success.

Please find attached:

1.     The Product Information Brochure is to be shared with potential purchasers - CLICK HERE

2.     Sellers order form to compile your customer’s orders and collect money from your customers -  CLICK HERE

3.     Each Family summarizes their orders on the Sellers Order Form - CLICK HERE and submits the form to [email protected] and etransfers the total amount of the order to [email protected] (please be sure to include your 'swim family name' and the word 'meat fundraiser' in the comment section of your etransfer)

Make sales by email, social media or door-to-door (safely!)…they will all work!

Any questions should be emailed to Nicole Chambers at [email protected]

Thanks for your support!

More good news!  We have 4 approved sanctions for In-House Swimming on November 21/22!

The swimmer sign ups for SRGS – SRS – SRBR1 and AGGS will be posted on the LAC website.

There will be no spectators allowed and minimal officials. MOST officials can only work one session a week.

We are using only the 4 even-numbered lanes.  There will be no timekeepers.  We will have 4 S&T on the finish end.  They will also each operate a plunger and maybe a watch.  There will be 2 S&T on the bulkhead and 2 Stroke Judges, 1 on each side.

For senior officials, the Competiton Coordinator will also be the Referee.  We have Meet Managers and a new position called Safety Coordinator all filled.  For each session, I still need a Starter, a Timing System Operator who ideally is also CJE qualified, and a Chief Timekeeper, who could also be Clerk of Course as needed.  The timing system operator is a job where the person can work up to 3 sessions a week.  I would prefer to have one person for each day be the timing system operator.  If you are qualified and want to volunteer for any of these 3 X 4 positions, please email me with your requests.  Please indicate a preferred day/session.

Swim Ontario is now insisting that ALL of a club’s level 2 and higher officials must be fully registered to work at a meet.  Same goes for officials from last year.  I have not been doing clinics yet so that means everyone on deck must be fully registered.  I am REQUIRED to confirm this.  NO officials will be allowed on deck if they are not fully registered.

To assist you with the registration process, I have added a page on the LAC website to step you through the process.  Sign in to your LAC account, hover your cursor over the OFFICIALS tab, click on REGISTER ON SWIMMING.CA from the drop-down menu and follow the instructions there. Note that there are different types of accounts.  The official’s accounts will have a different sign-on than a parent or swimmer account.  I have 3 separate accounts.  If you do not know your username and password for your official’s account please ask me and I can provide that to you by triggering an email to be sent to you.

If you have any officiating questions please contact me, Mark Lukings L.A.C. Co-Club Officials Chair at [email protected]

We encourage all swimmers to have an extra cap and goggles, the coaching staff will not be allowing swimmers to borrow caps and goggles at this time. If you require a new LAC swim cap, a coach will give your swimmer a new cap at work-out and we will add $12.00 to your swimmer account and it will be taken out of your account with your monthly fees. You can find your swim equipment information on our website when you are logged in: https://www.teamunify.com/team/canlac/page/swimmer-equipment.
