2020-21 NEWSLETTER 11

Congratulations to our 90 swimmers who raced in our first officially sanctioned in-house time trials last weekend, as well as 32 other swimmers who participated in unofficial race simulations. In our time trials, there were 179 swims in total, of which 95 were personal bests (53%). Most importantly, everyone, from our most senior swimmers to our youngest swimmers, did a terrific job following all of the required guidelines around physical distancing and face-masking, to ensure everyone’s health and safety as well as to ensure that we will be granted sanctions for further time trial opportunities. Many thanks to our safety co-ordinators Jan Burton and Tamara Thompson, and our competition co-ordinator Mark Lukings and Meet Managers Dimitri Zagidulin, Brad Sales and Shawn Smith.

Plans are underway for more sanctioned in-house time trials and race simulations on Dec.19 and Dec.31 – stay tuned for more details.  In the meantime, keep up the great training, and stay positive that we will, eventually, have some real championship opportunities in 2021.

You all received an email with information about this upcoming opportunity. For more information https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/head-to-head-stroke-and-resilience-series-presented-by-speedo-tickets-125687158675?aff=ebdssbonlinesearch

If you wish to participate please register individually - there will NOT be a sign-up through the LAC website.

Congratulation LAC families…your efforts have made a real difference for LAC!

Our Meat Fundraiser was a fantastic success! 72 families participated and have raised over $6000!!!

From this total, a minimum of $3000 will be put towards LAC programming, with the remainder helping offset swim fees for these 72 families!

Meat orders will arrive on Saturday November 28th.

All families who sold meat will need to pick-up their orders between 9 and 9:30AM in the Banting High School Parking Lot beside CGAC.

Upon arrival, please stay in your car so we can follow safe Covid protocols! We will send a runner over to get your name and will then assemble your order and place it in your car trunk.

As this boxed meat is frozen, it is important that you immediately deliver all of your individual orders (we recommend that you call your customers ahead of time to make sure that they will be at home on Saturday morning).

Thanks again for all your support…and please make sure that your BBQ tank is full and ready to go.

Nicole and Mike

Thank you!  That is to everyone who offered and came out to help at this past weekend’s Time Trials!  It seemed like a perfect fit to me! There were only 1 or 2 back-up officials each session.  It seemed like we had a VERY qualified crew with almost no substituting required.  Of course the swimmers and coaches helped with that too.  Four almost-perfect, infraction-free, sessions with only 1 swimmer being just a little too enthusiastic at the start!

There are specific names to mention, very much at the risk of missing someone.

Jan Burton and Tamara Thompson – for volunteering to be our Safety Coordinators!  This involved putting together a Safety plan and making sure it was executed before, during, and between the sessions.  Great work Tamara and Jan!

Dmitrij Zagidulin, Meet Manager – Dmitrij and I did all of the ‘Old-Normal’ meet pre-work for the four sessions but only attended 3 of the 4 sessions because Swim Ontario limited all positions, some more than others.

Shawn Smith and Brad Sales - for tagging in for me and Dmitrij as Competition Coordinator and Meet Manager on the SRS session so that we did not have to cancel any of the 4 planned sessions.

Rose Bloch-Hansen – for chasing down all of the unregistered officials for me.

Donna Moskal – for recruiting our minor officials.  Great idea to keep each session to the already established practice bubble!

Jay Myatt and the Set-up and Tear-down Crews - for getting it all out and putting it all away again!

My senior officials - who just volunteered without even needing to be asked!

And of course the S&Ts and Timers who offered up and came out without any failures, and some were even wanting to do more, if not for the 1-session limitation!  Worth mentioning, is the just-transferred in officials who couldn’t wait to get on out the deck.  I am taking this as a good sign!

Coaches - for your help with shepherding the swimmers on the round-about-routes, to and from the start-end of the pool and for getting mostly everyone there on time!  Andrew – for your help with the safety plan.

And last but not least the most excellent pool staff – who are always ready to help in any way that we want!

Meets are a nice reminder that the LAC team goes way beyond the athletes and coaches, and this was just a 4 session event!

We are hoping that our next planned sanctioned swimming will be on the late Saturday afternoon and early evening of December 19.  Time will tell, but for now we will proceed as if it is a go!

If you have any officiating questions please contact me, Mark Lukings L.A.C. Co-Club Officials Chair at [email protected]

We encourage all swimmers to have an extra cap and goggles, the coaching staff will not be allowing swimmers to borrow caps and goggles at this time. If you require a new LAC swim cap, a coach will give your swimmer a new cap at work-out and we will add $12.00 to your swimmer account and it will be taken out of your account with your monthly fees.
