COACHES REPORT

The final tip from Oliver Leroy on how to make your current reduced pool schedule count even more - EVALUATE.

Fewer swim workouts means less room for error. Because you don’t have an endless number of meters at your disposal, each meter becomes more important. So why not make sure you are consistently getting the best of yourself? (Also, you deserve nothing less than your best!) Pick a handful of metrics to evaluate yourself on, including your effort levels in practice (a simple out-of-ten rating is good enough), your mindset during the main set, and how you performed in the face of adversity. Crack open the pages of your logbook (hmmm, how many LAC'ers have a logbook I wonder?), and after you’ve quickly detailed the sets, intervals, and results, quickly evaluate your effort, focus, and mindset. Keeping yourself regularly accountable to these metrics will encourage you to be on top of them more often. While you may not have the most meters or workouts in hand, you CAN have the most number of high-grade, quality meters and sets in your training inventory.

The coaches want to send a HUGE shout-out to everyone, swimmers and parents alike, for remaining positive and flexible and adaptable as we continue to swim through these uncertain and constantly changing waters! In particular, with new orders from the Middlesex-London Health Unit late last week on some aspects of recreation and sports group training, our Age Group Orange and Development swimmers and parents were ON THE BALL on the weekend with the last-minute schedule changes, and hardly anyone missed a beat! WAY TO GO TEAM! Rest assured there will be more changes coming, hopefully to include a modest increase in water time for some if not all! No promises, but stay tuned.

2020 VIRTUAL AWARDS CEREMONY - SUNDAY NOV 1 2020

While circumstances have prevented us from coming together for a live, in-person banquet this fall, we are excited to acknowledge everyone's accomplishments from the abbreviated 2019-20 swim season, and handing out all of our traditional awards. Please set aside 90 minutes from 7:00-8:30pm on Sunday Nov 1 to join the rest of the LAC family on Zoom as we celebrate all of our achievements from last year. Zoom details will be emailed to everyone soon.

IT’S OFFICIAL!

I don’t have a lot to report this week.  We are still awaiting information on how we are to hold official’s clinics and the new content that must be included, when we will be allowed to host meets, and the ever-increasing volume of regulations involved in doing so.  This week a few people will be attending a seminar regarding the clinics and next week there will be one to provide more clarity on the safety requirements that must be in place at meets when they resume in some form.  I will be sure to pass along any information that will be useful to our current and future officials.

In the meantime, I am asking last year’s officials to please complete your online registration (as an official, as opposed to another role) so that, when that day comes that we can schedule meets, we will be able to finalize your registration and pay your official registration fee.  Returning officials will NOT be allowed to participate in a meet if they are not fully registered.  Brand new officials will have a short grace period but will still be required to complete a minimum portion of the registration process before they will be allowed on deck.  Hopefully this will not present too many challenges in staffing our meets.

Official’s Registration: Please see the newsletter from three weeks ago and follow the instructions on completing your registration.

If you have any officiating questions please contact me, Mark Lukings L.A.C. Co-Club Officials Chair at [email protected]

EQUIPMENT

We encourage all swimmers to have an extra cap and goggles, the coaching staff will not be allowing swimmers to borrow caps and goggles at this time. If you require a new LAC swim cap, a coach will give your swimmer a new cap at work-out and we will add $12.00 to your swimmer account and it will be taken out of your account with your monthly fees. You can find your swim equipment information on our website when you are logged in: https://www.teamunify.com/team/canlac/page/swimmer-equipment.
