2020-21 NEWSLETTER 3

NO Workouts Monday October 12 due to pool closure for Thanksgiving.

At the start of each season we like to remind our membership of what we feel are some of the "foundational" principles of the LAC program:

1. Our mission statement is: “To provide opportunities for all to be the best they can be in a positive, caring, and safe environment.” We are proud to tell you that all of our coaches are coach-certified and safety-trained, and are required to complete (among other things) a Vulnerable Sector Check or Offence Declaration Form, as well as the mandatory Respect in Sport for Activity Leaders e-module that was introduced in 2019

2. The primary objective for our youngest and newest swimmers in the Development program is “Learn to Swim”; in the Age Group program is “Learn to Train”; and in the Senior program is “Learn to Race.” However, the coaches strive to consistently teach in all three of these key areas at all levels of the club.

3. Two of our main messages to our swimmers, on the training side: a) “The only place where success comes before work is in the dictionary.” Your child will learn the value of hard work – our coaches praise hard work over talent. b)”Whether you think you can or think you can’t, you’re right.” Your child will learn the importance of self-confidence, self-reliance, and the power of positive thinking. A great work ethic and a positive attitude will take you far, in swimming but more importantly in life.

4. Two other messages we consistently bring home to our swimmers, regarding the competition side: a) “You can be a winner without placing first” and b) “It can be a good race without being a personal best.”  As in life, so in swimming: take pride in the victories and successes, but remember we learn more from our setbacks and disappointments. Use failures as stepping stones, not stopping points, and remember: The comfort zone is a beautiful thing but nothing ever grows there.

While circumstances will prevent us from hosting a live, in-person banquet this fall, we will still be acknowledging everyone's accomplishments last year, and handing out all of our traditional awards. Those swimmers who received annual trophies at our 2019 banquet are asked to return them (sanitized of course) to their coach as soon as possible.

We encourage all swimmers to have an extra cap and goggles, the coaching staff will not be allowing swimmers to borrow caps and goggles at this time. If you require a new LAC swim cap, a coach will give your swimmer a new cap at work-out and we will add $12.00 to your swimmer account and it will be taken out of your account with your monthly fees. You can find your swim equipment information on our website when you are logged in: https://www.teamunify.com/team/canlac/page/swimmer-equipment.

The team store is now open and will be open until October 4. LAC facemasks have been added to the store. The orders from All-Tides Team Store will take approximately 4 weeks and are expected to arrive in early November. Due to COVID-19 we will not be able to offer try-ons for the spiritwear this season but All-Tides has included a sizing chart to make the most educated decision for your swimmer.

If you have any questions or changes for your All Tides order please contact the following email address [email protected].

All-Tides and Speedo have partnered with Swim Canada to offer a small club fundraiser. For a period of two months starting Sept. 1, swimmers, parents, coaches and all swim fans will be able to raise funds for the club of their choice. A dedicated page can be found on the All Tides online store, where one can choose from a selection of Speedo products, and enter their club code when completing the purchase. Speedo will give the club 20 per cent of the total purchase amount. The club code to raise money for LAC is LAC. Unfortunately, we will not be able to customize the items ordered from this speedo fundraiser.

The speedo fundraiser is found here: https://www.alltides.com/en/speedoclub?p=1
