There was plenty to cheer about last weekend as our swimmers in Victoria, B.C, Windsor and right here at home in our Pentathlon all raced very well. Starting in Victoria at the 2022 Canadian Trials, congratulations to Amaris Peng for her silver medal in the junior girls 200BR, to Kathryn Ivanov for her club record in the 50BR, and of course to Maggie Mac Neil for being named to both the World Championship and Commonwealth Games team rosters.

In Windsor at the Swim Ontario Spring Forward event, there was plenty of great racing from our 31 swimmers in attendance. Out of 176 individual swims we had 147 long course (50m) lifetime bests, for an incredible and impressive 83.5% best time conversion rate! Sixteen swimmers achieved lifetime bests in 100% of their races, led by Isabelle Burton, Jackson Cooke and Tolga Kartoglu, who were all 8 for 8, an impressive display of versatility and endurance by all 3 swimmers. Ten swimmers finished on the podium a total of 14 times (5 gold - 4 silver - 5 bronze) and another ten swimmers finished in the top 10. Special congratulations to Ryan Ball, who achieved both his first LAC All-Time Top 10 Performance and his first Eastern Canadian Championship standard, and to Kyle Stuckless, who racked up his first Canadian Junior Championship qualifying time.

Finally, at our annual Pentathlon event, we had 128 swimmers competing - of these, 66 swimmers completed their first-ever races in the long course (50 meter) pool. A big shout-out to all of you, especially our Development, Age Group Orange and Age Group Blue swimmers, for not just successfully doing something you'd never done before, but knocking it out of the park! As Coach Gabbi observed, swimming your first races in the "long" pool is a real accomplishment, and you should all be very proud. Special congratulations to our seven swimmers who won the Pentahlon Trophy in their age categories: boys 10 Patrick Malone, boys 11 Aaron Zhu, boys 14 Anthony Stuckless, boys 15 Nolan Biliski, boys 17&over Slava Zagidulin, girls 11 Nicole Maar, girls 12 Grier Stokley. Again, an impressive display of versatility and endurance!

Congratulations also to first-time Regional Championship qualifiers Nicolas Daponte, Maya Haase, Benjamin Vanderveen and Felipe Ybarra.

WAY TO GO team - onward and upward!

The MacGregor's Meat Fundraiser is on again!! Deadline to submit orders is Sunday May 22 and order pick-up will be Saturday May 28 at 9am in the Banting parking lot.  More detailed information will be sent in a separate email along with product information and order forms.

Swim-a-thon will also be returning in June (date to be announced).

All LAC swimmers are expected to follow facility regulations in both City of London facilities as well as in facilities in other jurisdictions. Our training and competition protocols and our vaccination policy are based on the latest guidelines from the Middlesex London Health Unit (MLHU), City of London Aquatic Services, Province of Ontario (Reference) and Swim Ontario.

Despite the recent provincial government directive that face masks are no longer required in public spaces, we are mandating and will continue to enforce mask-wearing at all practices and competitions by all LAC coaches and swimmers, as well as by all volunteers working in an official capacity at our hosted swim meets, for the foreseeable future. Also, with the recent upsurge in positive cases we are asking all LAC swimmers, parents, and coaches to please maintain physical distancing of 2m and wear masks at all times indoors in public areas except swimmers when swimming.

If you have any questions about your swimmer statement please email Donna at [email protected]

Thank you Pentathlon Officials!  That was fun!  Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves, and it seemed like swimmers were having successes!  Your continued enthusiasm is wonderful and so much appreciated!

Next Meets:

LAC – Hollandia Spring Invitational – May 12 to 15 – CGAC

LAC – Blooming Talent - Development Time Trial – May 12 Evening – CGAC

LAC – Dr. Paul Hauch Invitational – July 9 to 10 – Thames Pool

LAC – Just Can’t Stop – Senior SC Time Trial – July 16 to 17 - CGAC

Our next meet is just over 4 weeks away!  To help at any meet you need a filled out swimming Canada Officials account.  If you need accounts then send me the Name, Age, Gender and Email address for everyone who wants to help.

Hollandia and Dev TT Minor Officials: We will probably post job sign-ups next week!  Clinics are coming.  See below.  Anyone with an account can be a Timer or a Heat Marshal. Everything else requires a clinic, including Safety Marshal. If you do not know the difference between a Marshal and a Safety Marshal then attend my Intro clinic or take the Intro and Safety Marshal Clinics online.

Hollandia and Dev TT Senior Officials: It is never too soon to seek senior official jobs for upcoming meets.  To do so, email me, with the official’s name, the jobs they are interested in, and the sessions that they are available to work.  Please send a separate email for each meet and include the name of the meet in the subject.

Upcoming Clinics:  I will be hosting all of the clinics again starting April 20, 22, 23, 25, 27, 29, 30, etc.  The plan is to have all of the clinics at least once and perhaps the Strokes and Turns Clinic twice.  This is probably the last full round of clinics, although, if there is enough interest I might have 1 Strokes and Turns clinic between Hollandia and Hauch.  Note that a few of the clinics are available online.  The exact dates will be given when the clinics are posted for sign-up in the next few days.

If you have any officiating questions please contact me, Mark Lukings, L.A.C. Co-Club Officials Chair at [email protected]  Note: This is volunteer work for me, so I may not get back to you immediately but, if urgent, I can handle a reminder.

The club has a long-standing policy regarding volunteer participation in our hosted swim meets, which includes the "earning" of mandatory session credits through working at our hosted swim meets.  The session credit policy can be found on the LAC website under the "parent info" tab under "LAC policy #2 - Club Hosted Meets and Session Credits". With some of our hosted racing events being cancelled, our Board of Directors has reviewed the Session Credit Policy and unanimously approved a revision to the policy for the rest of the 2021-22 year as follows:

Families of swimmers in Age Group and Senior are required to earn 16 session credits.

Families of returning Development swimmers are required to earn 8 session credits.

New families are not required to earn session credits but can transfer up to 5 session credits if they should decide to volunteer (which of course is encouraged and applauded)!

Families with swimmers that have transferred from another team are considered returning swimmers and are subject to the session credit policy.

Any unworked session credits will be billed to your swimmer account at $40 per session.

The LAC Board will continue to review the Session Credit Policy as the year progresses.

Please remember that all individual swim practice equipment purchases you make on the All Tides website using our LAC coupon code result in a kickback to the club, received at the end of the year. Last year the club received almost $1000 through this arrangement, most of which was put toward the purchase of dryland training equipment. You are helping the club by making your swim equipment purchases through All Tides. All group swim equipment information can be found on our website when you are logged in:  https://www.teamunify.com/team/canlac/page/swimmer-equipment
