The Dec 27 – Jan 2 practice schedule is posted on the LAC website under the “Schedules” tab.

If you have any questions about the practice schedule, please direct them to your swimmer's primary group coach.

CONGRATULATIONS to everyone who raced at Sunday's time trial. Many of our younger swimmers experienced their first "real" swim meet, and MOST IMPORTANTLY there was plenty of great technique on display - both swimmers and coaches obviously have been working very hard on the basic skills, and it's an important reminder for parents that at our youngest levels, we try to keep our focus almost exclusively on the FUN-damentals. For our coaches at this level, it's about eye-watching, not stop-watching. There are lots of skills to master, and rest assured our coaches will get to all of them with our swimmers, so a reminder also that a swimming career is a marathon, and we want to see our youngest swimmers with us for years to come, through all the ups and downs and twists and turns! It doesn't have to be a personal best to be a good swim, nor do you need to come first to be a winner.

Finally, we want to share with you an email received by a coach from a LAC swim parent after Sunday's time trial:

Just a huge thank you to you, all the coaches and volunteers for yesterdays event. My swimmer came home with a HUGE smile on his face. He loved the atmosphere and really just had a great time. He loved connecting and making new friends while watching others swim.
I cannot say enough great things about this program and the impact it has already had on my swimmer.  It’s pretty awesome to see our very even steady child (who doesn’t show a ton of emotion) get this excited for an activity!
Thank you again for such a great event!

It's always very much appreciated to receive emails like the above, so THANK YOU to that parent, and to every parent, for giving us the privilege and the pleasure of coaching your children. Everyone please enjoy a safe and happy holiday season, and hopefully we'll see everyone back starting the week of December 27.

A reminder that, in order to participate in LAC programming, all swimmers born in 2010 or later now must have their first vaccination by January 1, 2022 and their second vaccination by March 1, 2022. While we are hopeful this will not be the case, any families unable or unwilling to abide by this policy will be eligible for a membership fees refund to be determined based on their swimmer's last day of participation in the program. Either a hard copy or a digital copy of proof of vaccination presented to the swimmer's primary coach shall be the process by which swimmers are confirmed eligible to participate in LAC programming.

Please read below new policies coming into effect for those using City of London facilities, including the Canada Games Aquatic Centre:

Effective January 4: only the QR code version of the proof of vaccination will be acceptable.  All club members, spectators and users can either show their proof of vaccination QR code on their phone or they may print it out and have available. Facility staff will be required to SCAN each and every QR code of an individual who wishes to enter the facility.
Effective January 15: all MEDICAL exemptions will be required to show their QR Medical Exemption proof, paper copies will no longer be accepted.
Effective December 19: spectators are not permitted to bring any food or drink into the building (to ensure facemasks stay on)

Everyone should have received their spirit wear orders.  If not, please contact your coach.

If you have any questions about your swimmer statement please email Donna at [email protected]

Hey thanks again to everyone for offering your help at the Holiday Time Trials AND for sticking with your commitment in spite of all the recent news hype!  It is truly awesome to be able to work with a group of people who I can count on like this!  It makes my job so much less worrisome and it makes our events second to none!

Official Registrations: We managed to get all of the volunteers registered before the meet and we are now up to 196 officials with only 13 not fully registered.  If you are intending to volunteer this season and do not yet have an official account, or if you think you have one from a prior year or a different team but have not registered as an official this season for LAC, then please let me know, and we can either find that account and move it to this season or we can create you an account so that you can be ready when your time to help arrives.

Name Tags: Some people have noticed that some of us have Swim Ontario or Swim Canada name tags.  These can be ordered through me.  The price is $9.00 or if you get to level 2 then it will be free.  If you are already level 2 and did not get one then let me know, and that can be arranged.

Officiating levels: When you take the Introduction to Swimming Officiating Clinic you are level 1.  To get past level 0 you must take the Intro Clinic. To get to level 2 you need to have the Intro Clinic, the Judge of Strokes and Turns Clinic, and 1 other clinic and for each of these you need to get 2 sign-offs for deck experience in those jobs.  In other words you must have a minimal level of competence in 3 positions.  This is something to strive for, it helps to ensure that LAC can continue to host meets, is no more work than not doing it, and you get a name tag which nicely holds your white level-2 pin.  More on additional levels and sign-offs to come later.

Looking ahead: the next meet on the Schedule is the 12 & Under Celebration (with a second evening meet for 13 and Over swimmers thrown in there).  This is planned for the afternoon of January 15 (with the 13 and over meet in the evening) and the morning of January 16.  The minor official sign-ups will either appear on January 3rd, or maybe sooner.  If you want to be a senior official, and are qualified, then please email me with the session(s)/meet that you are available for and the jobs that you are interested in.  Please include ‘12 & Under Celebration’ in the subject regardless of the meet.

Clinics: I will be having clinics in some form (Zoom for at least some) between now and the 12 & Under Celebration (January 15 & 16) probably starting the week of January 3, and many more before WOSA (February 25 to 27).  Sign-ups will be posted as soon as possible.

If you have any officiating questions please contact me, Mark Lukings, L.A.C. Co-Club Officials Chair at [email protected]  Note: This is volunteer work for me, so I may not get back to you immediately but, if urgent, I can handle a reminder.

With us seemingly back to almost-normal with sanctioned swim meets, as more clubs and more swimmers come to our hosted meets, the need for more volunteer officials will be even greater. The club has a long-standing policy regarding volunteer participation in our hosted swim meets, which includes the "earning" of mandatory session credits through working at our hosted swim meets.  The session credit policy can be found on the LAC website under the "parent info" tab under "LAC policy #2 - Club Hosted Meets and Session Credits".

Families of swimmers in Age Group and Senior are required to earn 22 session credits each year.

Families of returning Development swimmers are required to earn 11 session credits.

New families are not required to earn session credits but can transfer up to 5 session credits if they should decide to volunteer (which of course is encouraged and applauded)!

Families with swimmers that have transferred from another team are considered returning swimmers and are subject to the session credit policy.

Any unworked session credits will be billed to your swimmer account at $40 per session.

*Please know that our Session Credit Policy is under constant scrutiny from the Board of Directors and, if deemed necessary, revisions to the policy may be implemented.

Please remember that all individual swim practice equipment purchases you make on the All Tides website using our LAC coupon code result in a kickback to the club, received at the end of the year. Last year the club received almost $1000 through this arrangement, most of which was put toward the purchase of dryland training equipment. You are helping the club by making your swim equipment purchases through AllTides. All group swim equipment information can be found on our website when you are logged in:
