JUNE 7 2022 - NEWSLETTER 40

WORKOUT CHANGES

Our temporary revised training schedule until Thames Park opens has been posted in the "SCHEDULES" tab on the website.  It is looking less and less likely that Thames Park will be opening any time soon, but rest assured there are plans in motion to host the Paul Hauch swim meet regardless. Please note: those of you with practices at Western University, spectators are NOT permitted inside the Western Student Recreation Centre, so swimmers will have to be dropped off and picked up at the front entrance or another location designated by parents and swimmers. Thank you to our Senior Bronze families and swimmers for their patience over the last 2 weeks as the Western pool has experienced some mechanical issues which have led to training schedule disruptions.

COACHES REPORT

Congratulations to everyone who raced last weekend either in Etobicoke at the Age Group International or in Windsor at the Western Region Championships, and to Amaris Peng who raced at the Mel Zajac Junior International in Vancouver as part of Team Ontario. There was plenty of fast swimming and lots of great team spirit on display in both Windsor and Etobicoke! Highlights from Etobicoke include 5 club record-setting performances: Ahmed El Tatawy established 2 new marks in the 15-17 boys category, while his brother Abduallah, along with Niamh O'Leary and Carter Buck, each made LAC history in one individual event. As well as these record-breaking swims, Kyle Stuckless achieved his first-ever All Time Top 10 Performance.

In Windsor, we finished 2nd overall in the team standings behind the host Windsor Aquatic Club. Top 5 teams were WAC 1055pts, LAC 1039pts, BRANT 683pts, GHAC 651pts, GMAC 476pts. Our swimmers achieved over 300 personal bests, and a best times percentage (out of total individual swims) of 64.5%, which is excellent! Special congratulations to our 14 swimmers who achieved 100% personal bests: Zain Arwani, Roxana Ashigh, Heidi Bartoch, Nolan Biliski, Sophie Buckman, Madison Cann, Charlotte Dyer, Alex Lobo, Declan Nolan, Arthur Pinto, Maria Pinto, Paisley Vachon, Karen Xian, and Anwen Zhao!

We collected almost 80 medals in individual events (21G-28S-29B) and handed out a whole stack of LAC tattoos to our Sunday heat winners, which has been a long-standing LAC tradition, acknowledging great efforts on the last day of a long meet that support one of our credos: "FINISH STRONG!"  Our relay teams had 9 podium finishes (3G-2S-4B).  Finally, congratulations to our 3 first-time Provincial Festival qualifiers: Grace Cao, Lily Lu and Maya Rastogi. All in all, a great weekend of racing!  ONWARD and UPWARD!

Thank you!

SUMMER SKILLS CAMP

LAC will be hosting a Summer Skills Camp at Gibbons Pool this summer. This camp is for Age Group and Development swimmers. Current group placement will determine the swimmers’ group for the camp. The cost of the camp is $75 per week. Sign up is available on the LAC website under the "Events" tab, please click on "Job Signup" to reserve your spot. Email Donna at [email protected] if you have any questions.

COVID-19

All LAC swimmers are expected to follow facility regulations in both City of London facilities as well as in facilities in other jurisdictions. Our training and competition protocols and our vaccination policy are based on the latest guidelines from the Middlesex London Health Unit (MLHU), City of London Aquatic Services, Province of Ontario (Reference) and Swim Ontario.  The LAC Board of Directors keeps regular tabs on local health unit directives in this regard, and is making decisions that continue to safeguard our swimmers and families and coaches while still providing optimal training and competition opportunities. Please remain patient as we work cautiously and reasonably through the final weeks (hopefully) of the pandemic

SWIM MEET VOLUNTEER SESSION CREDITS

The club has a long-standing policy regarding volunteer participation in our hosted swim meets, which includes the "earning" of mandatory session credits through working at our hosted swim meets.  The session credit policy can be found on the LAC website under the "parent info" tab under "LAC policy #2 - Club Hosted Meets and Session Credits". With some of our hosted racing events being cancelled, our Board of Directors has reviewed the Session Credit Policy and unanimously approved a revision to the policy for the rest of the 2021-22 year as follows:

Families of swimmers in Age Group and Senior are required to earn 16 session credits.

Families of returning Development swimmers are required to earn 8 session credits.

New families are not required to earn session credits but can transfer up to 5 session credits if they should decide to volunteer (which of course is encouraged and applauded)!

Families with swimmers that have transferred from another team are considered returning swimmers and are subject to the session credit policy.

Any unworked session credits will be billed to your swimmer account at $40 per session.

The Session Credit Policy is under the constant scrutiny of the Board of Directors.

EQUIPMENT

Please remember that all individual swim practice equipment purchases you make on the All Tides website using our LAC coupon code result in a kickback to the club, received at the end of the year. Last year the club received almost $1000 through this arrangement, most of which was put toward the purchase of dryland training equipment. You are helping the club by making your swim equipment purchases through All Tides. All group swim equipment information can be found on our website when you are logged in: https://www.teamunify.com/team/canlac/page/swimmer-equipment
