There will be a Dec 27 – Jan 2 schedule posted on the LAC website under the “schedule” tab shortly.

Please check the "SCHEDULES" tab on the website for the practice schedule. If you have any questions about the practice schedule, please direct them to your swimmer's primary group coach.

Some swim meet protocols (NOT COVID protocols!) for Nothers this weekend:

1)arrive on time - find your coach and say: "Hi Coach, I'm here!"

2)do a good warm-up, including some dryland activation, and do a good warm-down if your coach tells you to

3)when not swimming: stay dry (bring a nice BIG towel), stay warm (wearing your LAC spiritwear), and stay fuelled (bring your full water bottle and small carbohydrate-rich snacks) - keep the gas tank on "F" for FAST!  Sit with your team. Keep the team area clean - use the garbage cans!

4)focus only on your next race - you can only swim one race at a time - no looking back or looking too far ahead!

5)your coach is your only source of pre and post-race advice. The last person you talk to before your race = your coach. The first person you talk to after your race = your coach.

Swim Meets like Nothers - Return to Racing (more than one club participating) have a entry charge for each race. When a meet is posted for sign up on the website the entry fee will be included in the post. After the entry deadline has passed all swimmers signed up for a meet will be responsible for their entry fees. The entry charges will be on your next monthly statement after the meet. If you have any questions about your statement please email Donna at [email protected]

Thank you to the 15 people who attended the Introduction/Timer/Safety Marshal clinic on Friday evening.  There was a lot covered and I hope it was useful for you.

Nothers Sign-Ups:

I was feeling a little at risk that we could be short on officials doing the most important job for the swimmers, the timers.  Donna and I added a few slots to cover absentees.  There are a few slots still open as of late Monday.  It is critical that we have at minimum of 8 timers and 8 judges of strokes and turns.  Please have a look and if there is an empty slot and you can fill it, please sign-up, keeping in mind that for strokes and turns you MUST have the clinic.  Sometimes people remove their sign-up so if you are still looking to help, please check now and then for recently opened spots.

I also want to apologize to a couple of people who signed up in open slots before we finalized our numbers and then were removed when we deleted the unneeded highest numbered slots.

Oh, by the way, as always, if we have extra officials, we reserve the right to use you for another opening, because if a job needs to be done, no one is too good to do it . . . and you might discover a new favourite job!

Nothers Senior Officials:

I still have some opportunities for anyone who is qualified, interested and willing.  I currently need for Fri Session 2 (400s) a Chief Judge Electronics, Saturday morning a Recorder/Scorer, Sunday morning a Chief Timer, a Chief Judge Electronics, and a Recorder/Scorer and in the Sunday Evening session, a Recorder/Scorer.  If you can help, please email me at: [email protected]

If you signed up for minor officials jobs, in case you did not get senior official jobs, please make sure you are NOT signed up for two jobs in the same session, a senior and also a minor official job.  If you are, please remove the minor official sign-up so that someone else can sign up.

Nothers Common Questions:

  1. When do I arrive and where do I go? – Early!  We are having live briefings.  The briefings start 30 minutes prior to the first race, same time as some of the warm-ups.  There could be a line up at the door.  If there are swimmers waiting, they have priority, let them in first, even if they arrive after you.  Ideally you are through the door and in the official’s room, which is the ground level meeting room past the upper bleachers, by 45 minutes prior to the first race but 30 minutes will do and getting swimmers to their warm-up is the priority.  When you arrive in the official’s room please check in with the official coordinators sitting at a table near the south door of the meeting room.
  2. Where do I come in? – Swimmers, officials and coaches come in the front door.
  3. What do I wear? – Timers, Chief Timers, and Assistant Chief Timers wear white shirts.  All other officials wear red shirts.  All wear black or dark coloured pants or shorts.  Clean footwear that can get wet and will be less likely to slip.

Registration is NOT an Option!!!!!!:  To attend a live clinic or to volunteer at a meet, everyone must have their own official account AND the online consent forms MUST be completed and signed before the clinic or the meet.

If you sign up to attend and you do not have an account or the account registration is not complete for this year, then we will be contacting you to complete your registration.  Please do not make us chase you!  That is not fun for anyone.  When we set up a new account, we will trigger an email from [email protected] with your account information.   If you have a spam filter, please allow email from that account AND from my account [email protected]

If you have any officiating questions please contact me, Mark Lukings, L.A.C. Co-Club Officials Chair at [email protected]  Note: This is volunteer work for me, so I may not get back to you immediately but, if urgent, I can handle a reminder.

With us getting ever closer to a return to sanctioned swim meets, with multiple clubs and more swimmers, the need for more volunteer officials will be even greater. The club has a long-standing policy regarding volunteer participation in our hosted swim meets, which includes the "earning" of mandatory session credits through working at our hosted swim meets.  The session credit policy can be found on the LAC website under the "parent info" tab under "LAC policy #2 - Club Hosted Meets and Session Credits".

Families of swimmers in Age Group and Senior are required to earn 22 session credits each year.

Families of returning Development swimmers are required to earn 11 session credits.

New families are not required to earn session credits but can transfer up to 5 session credits if they should decide to volunteer (which of course is encouraged and applauded)!

Families with swimmers that have transferred from another team are considered returning swimmers and are subject to the session credit policy.

Any unworked session credits will be billed to your swimmer account at $40 per session.

Please remember that all individual swim practice equipment purchases you make on the All Tides website using our LAC coupon code result in a kickback to the club, received at the end of the year. Last year the club received almost $1000 through this arrangement, most of which was put toward the purchase of dryland training equipment. You are helping the club by making your swim equipment purchases through AllTides. All group swim equipment information can be found on our website when you are logged in:
