There are NO practices on Sun Oct 17 for SrSilver, SrBronze1 or SrBronze2. All other practices run as usual.

Please check the "SCHEDULES" tab on the website for the practice schedule. If you have any questions about the practice schedule, please direct them to your swimmer's primary group coach.

Also in the "SCHEDULES" tab is a preliminary competition calendar for the year. Our first time trial on Sunday October 17 is for all Senior groups, as well as Age Group Gold and Age Group Silver.

Last spring, somewhere in the middle of the 3rd COVID lockdown, when Coach Gabbi was running her virtual bike sessions to complement Coach Cassie's virtual dryland sessions, we reviewed over the course of 5 bike sessions the 5 LAC Core Principles. The acronym is not very good, since it doesn't spell an actual word, but it's H.A.R.C.R. Let's review the five core principles here, and add one thought to go along with each principle:

HONESTY - "Tell one lie and all your truths will be doubted."

ACCOUNTABILITY - "Say what you mean, mean what you say, and do what you say you're going to do."

RESPECT - The Golden Rule: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

COMPETITIVENESS - from the Latin roots COM, meaning together and PERE, meaning to strive. Striving TOGETHER towards a common desired objective. Also, whether you're racing for first or racing for seventh (or ninth in the 10-lane pool) show respect to your fellow competitors by giving 100% until your hand touches the wall!

RESILIENCE - two quotes here: 1. "90% of success is just showing up."  and 2. "Success is a matter of hanging on after others have let go."

Let's all of us try to live these five core principles every day, in everything we do, not just in the pool but in life!

We will be hosting a virtual awards ceremony on Wednesday November 3 from 7:30-8:30pm. Please set aside this time to join us on Zoom to celebrate the outstanding accomplishments of our swimmers in the crazy 2020-21 year. More details to follow.

We ask that all swimmers who received an annual trophy last year please return it to their coach as soon as possible.

We also ask that anyone with photos from either the summer-ending practice at Thames Pool on July 24 or the Oxford Drive-In on July 25 send them to Cara Maar at [email protected]

With hosted swim meet revenues in jeopardy due to COVID-19 restrictions, fundraising becomes a critical source of revenue for the continued operation of the club. We held two VERY successful meat fundraisers last year, and are planning for a third in November. Reviews have been very positive on the quality of the products delivered to us by North Country Meats.

Saturday November 20 has been confirmed as the date for order pick-up from the Banting High School parking lot. Stay tuned for more details, including product information and order forms, in the coming days.

If you have any questions about your statement please email Donna at [email protected]

Our spiritwear order has been placed and shipment is anticipated in approximately 4 weeks. There will be another opportunity to order LAC spiritwear in November.   If you have any questions regarding All Tides orders or product concerns, please contact the following email address [email protected]

Please remember that any individual swim equipment purchases you make on the AllTides website using our LAC coupon code result in a kickback to the club, received at the end of the year. Last year the club received almost $1000 through this arrangement, most of which was put toward the purchase of dryland training equipment. You are helping the club by making your swim equipment purchases through AllTides. All group swim equipment information can be found on our website when you are logged in:  https://www.teamunify.com/team/canlac/page/swimmer-equipment

Our first meet will soon be here and we have lots of volunteers, we have people interested in training, and we have more meets coming up which need even more volunteers.  The problem now is most of our officials are not yet registered with the required consents completed.  Today’s main topic is Official Registration.

If you worked as an official in the past then you probably have an official account and it needs to be updated.  If you do not remember your username I can get you that.  If you do not remember your password then I can reset it.

Once you have your login information and are ready to proceed go ahead and sign in.  If you need more information then sign into your LAC account, hover your cursor over the OFFICIALS tab at the top, and select the first option REGISTER ON SWIMMING.CA  Everything you need is there and there is a link at the bottom with even more information.  If you are still stumped, I can help.

If everyone could please update your account now, that would make things a lot easier when you want or need to do something that requires an up-to-date account.

Next Topic: Training – Last week I touched on training.  Feel free to take the online training.  I will be starting in-class or Zoom training after the Fall Start-Up.   We need to make some progress on adding to our depleted ranks of officials before we get to bigger meets where we will need a lot more.

If you have volunteered for the LAC Fall Start-Up I will be emailing important information for the volunteers.  Please make sure that you read it.

If you have any officiating questions please contact Mark Lukings, L.A.C. Co-Club Officials Chair at [email protected]
