COACHES REPORT

Week number 3 of the season and the coaches are all very happy with how things have started. We want to remind everyone once again that these early days of the season are the time to focus on HOW you are swimming more than on HOW FAST you are swimming or HOW FAR you are swimming. The championship competitions for the older swimmers do not arrive until 2022, so now is the time to be patient with your speed but purposeful and persistent and precise with your technique. HOW you swim now will play a big part in HOW FAST you swim later!

ALL TIDES

The team store remains open for bathing suit and team spiritwear purchases through Sun Sept 26. All swimmers in our Age Group and Senior programs must wear the team training suit. There is a sizing kit available at CGAC should you wish to have your swimmer try some suit options and sizes.  To create your account and place orders use our club code: LAC   If you have any questions regarding All Tides orders or product concerns, please contact the following email address [email protected]

EQUIPMENT

Please remember that any individual swim equipment purchases you make on the AllTides website using our LAC coupon code result in a kickback to the club, received at the end of the year. Last year the club received almost $1000 through this arrangement, most of which was put toward the purchase of dryland training equipment. You are helping the club by making your swim equipment purchases through AllTides. All group swim equipment information can be found on our website when you are logged in:  https://www.teamunify.com/team/canlac/page/swimmer-equipment

IT’S OFFICIAL!

Hello LACers!  Last week I gave you some meet dates and this week I am going to start providing you with some details.  With all the changes that are happening these days, it is too soon to provide anything for the Nothers event Nov 26 to 28 or the Holiday Time Trial in December.  Anything I give you would be speculation at best.  I WILL give you more information on the first two meets.  Warning some of this is likely to change and some, such as which swimmers are in which session, is not yet known.

Both Time Trials:

  • 3 sessions – 30-minute warm-up, 60 minutes of racing, 20-minute breaks between sessions, max of 48 swimmers per session
  • Senior Officials: Meet Manager, Competition Coordinator/Referee, Safety Coordinator, Starter, Electronics, Clerk of Course, Chief Timer
  • No spectators – the only way to view the meet indoors is to volunteer.  Limited positions
  • Qualified Senior Official volunteers can email me
  • Donna will be recruiting minor officials from the families with swimmers in the session

LAC Fall Start-Up Time Trial – October 17:

  • Same format as last season
  • 4 lanes
  • Minor Officials: 4 to 7 Strokes and Turns, 0 to 5 Timers (combination of timers and Strokes and turns depends on the pool of volunteers

LAC November Time Trial – November 6:

  • 8 lanes
  • Minor Officials: 6 to 9 Strokes and Turns, 4 to 5 Timers (combination of timers and Strokes and turns depends on the pool of volunteers

Officials Registration:  In order to work on the deck or take in-person training you must be registered as an official with Swim Canada.  In order to participate in online training, you must at least have an official’s account.  If you have registered in the past, please do it again this year.  If you have come to us from another club then I can transfer your information to LAC, but you still need to register each year.  Email me if this is your situation.  If you are new this or last year and want to volunteer, then you will need an official’s account with Swimming Canada.  If you do not have an official’s account please email me your Last Name, First Name, Gender, and Email Address and we will create an account for you.

Official Training:  There are a few online courses which I will tell you more about next week. Some of the training still requires live instruction in a class or via online (Zoom) instruction.  There will be more to come on that as well, but first things first.  Most official positions require training.  To take the live training you need to be fully registered or, for the online courses, at least have an official’s account.  Please, let’s get started on that so that we are not scrambling at the last minute.  Live courses may not happen until after the October 17 event.  I am busy in early October, but I will try to have a Strokes and Turns clinic prior to Oct 17 if at all possible.

If you have any officiating questions please contact Mark Lukings, L.A.C. Co-Club Officials Chair at [email protected]
