CLUB INFORMATION

Markham Aquatic Club (MAC) is a non-profit, inclusive community-based swim club, with approximately 300 swimmers in nine different training groups. Our swimmers train in the world-class 10 lane, 50-metre Markham Pan Am Centre pool and several modern 8-lane and 6-lane 25-metre pools. MAC swimmers compete at swim meets and team travel events during the competitive season.

MAC has produced swimming champions for over 40 years, from local club competitors to Canadian and U.S. University swimmers and from Provincial and National Level competitors to Commonwealth and Olympic Games swimmers. Building on our past successes, MAC continues to develop into a model of excellence committed to each individual and overall TEAM success, from the grassroots to Olympic level.

MAC Coaches are among the best in Canada. Working with each swimmers' unique strengths, Head Coach Sean Baker and his professional coaching staff are excited to continue MAC's winning tradition through hard work, dedication and training strategy.  Each swimmer's progression is carefully crafted according to individual strengths and abilities, providing the structure and environment to tadvance at their optimal rate.

MAC is run by a volunteer Board of Directors, paid Coaches and a paid club adminstrator. A large group of parent volunteers carries out multiple duties within the club, from swim meet officiating to serving on our Board and committees. MAC organizes fundraisers and social activities to help support the club and celebrate our success. MAC also hosts swim meets and operates popular swim camps.

Since its beginning in the mid 1970s, MAC has been an integral part of the Markham community. The club proudly fosters a sense of "family", as older swimmers interact with younger ones and family-friendly team bonding social events are shared throughout the year, including our annual awards banquet, seasonal parties and summer fun days. Athletes also enjoy at least one team travel opportunity to compete each season. Parents are the backbone of our lasting success. MAC swimmers love their club and their teammates, building bonds and friendships that last a lifetime.

After an assessment, our youngest swimmers usually enter our introduction to competitive swimming program named Olympic Prospects (OP). This program is an excellent gateway to our competitive age-group development programs: Top Age Group, Bronze, Silver and Gold. MAC Swimmers first learn to train, then train to train and advance into training to compete at the elite level. As they develop proficiency in the physical, technical-tactical, mental and emotional aspects of competitive swimming, MAC's Senior and Varsity swimmers are well equipped to handle the rigorous training and increased commitment to compete at National and International levels. OUR MISSION

MAC provides the opportunity and encouragement for each of our swimmers to develop his or her full potential in competitive swimming in the pursuit of personal excellence.

OUR VISION

MAC’s vision is to be the premier swim club for competitive swimming in Canada.

CORE PRINCIPLES

The principles by which we operate are:

Our Swimmers

First and foremost, every decision made by the Club is based on the impact to the swimmers.  The swimmers are the most important component of the Club and as such, our time, attention and resources are focused on delivering excellent swim training programs for our swimmers.

Inclusive and welcoming, we strive to inspire and enable our swimmers to achieve excellence in the sport of swimming and in life while creating an environment where excellence is inevitable and fun!

Our Coaches

The Club values the knowledge and dedication of each coach.  Coaches will have a safe and enjoyable environment in which to work.  Coaches should have the opportunity to learn and grow as a coach and the freedom to make decisions and be accountable for the outcomes.

Our Officials

As a member of the swimming community we take pride in contributing to the sport by ensuring that we have well trained officials not only for our own meets, but for other clubs’ meets when called upon.

Our Members

As members we recognize our role is to support the swimmers, coaches, and Club in any way possible.  As a volunteer run organization the Club’s success is directly linked to the volunteering efforts of the members.

As not-for-profit, member-run organization we strive to provide value to our members, transparency of operations, proper governance, and the ability for any member to assist with the direction and operation of the Club.

Our Community

We aim to have a positive impact on our community by representing the City of Markham to the best of our ability both in and out of the water.

Our Values

MAC is a diverse and inclusive organization. We strive to build a community where everyone feels safe and respected. We stand together, anchored in our values, celebrating equality and inclusion. We stand against discrimination, racism, bigotry and prejudice in all forms.

CLUB HISTORY
