CLUB INFORMATION

Markham Aquatic Club (MAC) provides the opportunity and encouragement for each of our swimmers to develop his or her full potential in competitive swimming in the pursuit of personal excellence.

Swimmers train in the state-of-the-art 10 lane, 50 metre Markham Pan Am Centre pool plus several modern 8-lane and 6-lane 25 metre pools. Head Coach Darren Ward, a veteran coach and past Canadian Olympian, and his coaching staff are excited to continue the winning tradition of our club through hard work, dedication and training strategy and through working with each swimmer’s unique strengths.

MAC has produced swimmers of all calibre – from local club competitors to Canadian and U.S. University swimmers - from Provincial and National Level competitors to Commonwealth and Olympic Games swimmers.

Building on our past successes MAC will continue to develop into a model of excellence committed to each individual and overall TEAM success, from the grassroots to Olympic level.

Each swimmer's progression is carefully crafted according to their individual strengths and abilities, so as to give them the structure and environment to advance at their optimum rate.

Programs are divided into our competitive swimming program and our introduction to competitive swimming program named Swim2Achieve. For more information please see our membership page, call us at 905‑475‑8161, or send an email.

OUR MISSION

MAC provides the opportunity and encouragement for each of our swimmers to develop his or her full potential in competitive swimming in the pursuit of personal excellence.

OUR VISION

MAC’s vision is to be the premier swim club for competitive swimming in Canada.

CORE PRINCIPLES

The principles by which we operate are:

Our Swimmers

First and foremost every decision that is made by the Club will be made based on the impact to the swimmers.  The swimmers are the most important component of the Club and whenever possible all time, attention, and resource should be directed towards the betterment of the swimmers.

We strive to inspire and enable our swimmers to achieve excellence in the sport of swimming and in life while creating an environment where excellence is inevitable and fun!

Our Coaches

The Club values the knowledge and dedication of each coach.  Coaches will have a safe and enjoyable environment in which to work.  Coaches should have the opportunity to learn and grow as a coach and the freedom to make decisions and be accountable for the outcomes.

Our Officials

As a member of the swimming community we take pride in contributing to the sport by ensuring that we have well trained officials not only for our own meets, but for other clubs’ meets when called upon.

Our Members

As members we recognize our role is to support the swimmers, coaches, and Club in any way possible.  As a volunteer run organization the Club’s success is directly linked to the volunteering efforts of the members.

As not-for-profit, member-run organization we strive to provide value to our members, transparency of operations, proper governance, and the ability for any member to assist with the direction and operation of the Club.

Our Community

We aim to have a positive impact on our community by representing the City of Markham to the best of our ability both in and out of the water.

CLUB HISTORY

MAC has been promoting excellence in the sport of competitive swimming since the early 1970s. MAC has come to be recognized and respected in the Canadian swimming community.
