Parents Guide to Long Term Athlete Development

Description:

  • Swimmers in this squad will be striving to learn proper technique in all four competitive strokes, including starts and turns. 
  • Swimmers will be introduced to goal setting, generally accepted racing strategies, and have their first taste of competition at appropriately selected local competitions and club hosted meets
  • Swimmers will also compete and strive to improve their technique while maintaining fitness and having fun. 
  • The training emphasis is on learning how to swim properly, not time standards. 
  • Swimmers will target a graduation into the “Festival” squad.
  • Graduations are based on met criteria including training, skill, performance, accountability and commitment.
  • Swimmers will work within a structured curriculum designed to improve and master the technical fundamentals of their sport, as well as develop their aerobic fitness. Therefore, attendance is critical for long-term development, improvement, and success.
  • Our target goals in mind, we're working on improving the common errors and style.

Pre-requisite:

  • Be 12 & Under
  • Have graduated from S2A, or have passed an assesment from a MAC coach

Expectations:

  • Swimmers will arrive on deck 15 minutes before each practice for activation protocol.
  • Swimmers will have all required training equipment at every practice.
  • Swimmers will attend all scheduled practices to the best of their ability with a 90% expectation.
  • Swimmers will attend all scheduled competitions as outlined for the group.
  • Swimmers will conduct themselves with highest level of professionalism at all practices and swim meets.
  • Swimmers will represent the Markham Aquatic with pride by wearing required Team Wear at all meets without exception.

Kickboard, Alignment Kickboard, Pullbouy, Fins, FINIS Agility Paddles, Finger Paddles, 2 x Drinks Bottles, Snorkel, Mac Cap, Goggles, Costume, Skipping Rope, Band, Mesh Bag, Land Training Mat
