Busy Weekend For MAC

Darren Ward

This past weekend was an extremely busy weekend for MAC as swimmers were scattered across the GTA competing in competitions at both the Toronto Pan Am Pool and the Markham Pan Am Pool.

MAC RISING #1

MAC’s up and coming swimmers from S2A, Discovery, Bronze 2 and Silver 2 were busy honing their skills at our very own “MAC Rising #1” meet. We had over 140 young swimmers competing in their home pool and by all accounts the results looked to be very good with many swimmers establishing personal best times and swimming in events for the very first time. We also had many swimmers from S2A and Discovery competing in their very first competition, this can be an overwhelming experience and I am sure that Coach Hazem and his coaching staff made them all feel comfortable and prepared. I hope that everyone had a great “First Race” experience.

I would like to thank Emma Abbatangelo for volunteering to come out and Help Coach Hazem on short notice; your help was greatly appreciated.

I would like to acknowledge all the hard work that YY Wong put into this meet to make it a success, YY is our champion of meet management and works tirelessly to ensure that MAC meets operate smoothly. This is YY’s second meet of the season and once again the meet was a success. Thank you YY.

I would also like to thank all the parents who came out to volunteer. These meets do not happen without you and I encourage everyone to take the next steps and get further involved on the officiating and meet management side of things.

I am looking forward to watching all our “Rising Stars” Perform over the course of the season.

NYAC CUP

Over on the other side of the city swimmers from Bronze 1, Silver 1, Gold 1 and HP were busy smashing best times at the NYAC Cup meet held at the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre. I know that all the coaches were very pleased with the incredible results that our swimmers posted. For myself it was the first time I could really be able to see what I was dealing with in my HP group. I was very pleased with how they performed at this very early stage in the season.

Some of the highlights of the meet were:

  • Alex Axon:
    • First time under 4:00 in 400 free (3:54.78) and just .7 off the Provincial Record
    • 4 Gold medals.
    • Posted 3 times that are currently # 1 in Canada (200, 400 and 800 Free) for 15 year old boys.
  • Emma Gao:
    • 7 Gold medals
    • Posted 2 times that are currently # 1 in Canada (200 Free and 200 I.M.)
  • Jessica Sheng:
    • New Club Record in the 12-year-old girls 50 Back (31.56)
    • 2 Gold medal performances
  • MAC:
    • Finished in 5th place over-all out of 27 scoring clubs
      • 3rd in the women’s scoring
      • 6th in the men’s scoring

The meet was riddled with performance just like this from all 72 MAC swimmers in attendance. We are now just 5 weeks away from our targeted meets, Gatineau Grand Prix, Border City Invitational and Roy Jacobson Invitational. All swimmers should be competing in one of these meets depending on what group you are in.

MAC will also have 5 swimmers competing in the Ontario Junior International in 6 weeks time.

I am looking forward to many more outstanding performances to come.

Lets Go MAC!!!
