The 2021 summer will be an opportunity for swimmers to get back into the water, raise their swimming profile and prepare for the 2021/22 season.  Due to COVID-19, the last 12 months of swimming left swimmers with gaps in their athletic development.  For this year, programs have been developed depending on athlete age, experience and level of performance to get back to swimming and allow the swimmers to have a structured and consistent program. The goal with all the programs is to enjoy the water and provide an opportunity for our swimmers to find genuine enjoyment and stay active.

NYAC is pleased to announce programs at the Holland Bloorview pool for July 2021.  This pool is accessible and welcoming to a broad range of swimmers and the water temperature is generally higher than other pools.

What is it?

The NYAC Waves program is a developmental swim program that introduces swimmers to the sport of competitive swimming.   The goal of the program is to develop all four kicks: free, back, breast and fly.  The swimmers will also learn how to function as a part of a group with the added element of water.

Who is it for?

This program is for new swimmers between the ages of 6-12 years.  Your child must be able to swim across a 25-metre pool without stopping.  They do not have to have strong skills, but they need to be able to prove that they can be safe in the water, as during Covid-19 time, coaches cannot be the water with the swimmers..

Swim-Fit Challenge Camp

What is it?

Coaches will work with athletes setting a realistic goal at the beginning of the week determining how far they would like to run or walk and swim by Friday.  Inspired by the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, there will be an added fitness challenge that will be determined by the camp coaches. Throughout the week the group will go on runs and hikes throughout the beautiful, shady trails on Glendon campus, develop agility skills and strength on the field and work on swimming technique in the pool.   Every Friday the goal will be to compete in a Swim-Fit Challenge based on personal goals as determined on the first day of camp.

Who is it for?

Any young athlete who is a beginner swimmer or experienced Club swimmer looking to improve their skills in the water and on land.   For NYAC swimmers - if you were in Waves, Youth, Intro, Dev A, B, and C or Junior C, this is an ideal program.

Endurance will build throughout the week by working on the skills for becoming efficient.   Athletes will be divided into groups so that the beginners will be in the pool while the more advanced athletes will be out on the field and trails and then switch.

Summer Training

What is it?

Coaching will focus on steady training with an emphasis on technical work, aerobic capacity and racing skills.

Who is it for?

Experienced competitive swimmers.  For NYAC swimmers if you were in Senior A, B, C, Junior A, B or Development A (born in 2008 or earlier), this is the ideal program for you.
