Pickering swimmers set new standards at Markham meet! Two Pickering Swim Club records fell at the recent MAC Winter Invitational meet, capping off another successful competition for our athletes. Anthony Toader smashed the former club record in the 50m backstroke for boys aged 15-16 – not just once, but twice. Pickering performance right on the money at Guelph event! A small squad of Pickering Swim Club athletes delivered big results at the 2017 Dash for Cash meet in Guelph, Ont., winning 41 medals and finishing fourth out of 14 teams. Pickering sent just 20 swimmers to the meet, which is hosted annually by the Guelph Marlins Aquatic Club. Leif Bouwman’s nine-medal performance earned the Pickering Swim Club athlete MVP honours at the 2017 Lisa Flood Christmas Classic, while Leif and three other swimmers from the host club combined to break eight meet records. With just eight swimmers competing in one event each, Pickering Swim Club’s Blue Group earned two podium finishes at the Oshawa Aquatic Club (OSHAC) Distance Meet on November 25. The team also trimmed a combined 277.16 seconds from their personal best times in their first long-distance test of the 2017-18 season. Pickering Swim Club athletes showed great early-season form at the 2017 Barrie Aquafest meet, taking second place in the team results with 13 gold, 31 silver and 39 bronze finishes while setting a club record in one event. Pickering’s 49 swimmers also cut a combined 1,728 seconds from their personal best times at the November 3-5 meet.
