Development 11 & Under


 

Description:

Swimmers in this squad will be striving to learn proper technique in all four competitive strokes, including starts and turns. Swimmers will be introduced to goal setting, generally accepted racing strategies, and have their first taste of competition at appropriately selected local competitions. Swimmers will also compete and strive to improve their technique while maintaining fitness and having fun. The training emphasis is on learning how to swim properly, not time standards. Swimming well will lead to championship qualification.

Swimmers will target a graduation into Bronze or Junior Select, though may also require additional development training in our Dev 12-13 program. Graduations are based on met criteria including training, skill, performance, accountability and commitment.

Prerequisites:

Swimmers should be ages 11 and under. Head Coach will make final decision on entry into this group.

Schedule / Frequency:

  • 4 workouts per week
  • 7 total hours per week includes: in-water, activation, and dryland training
  • Swimmers will work within a cyclical training framework focused on technique and continued development of training energy systems. Therefore, attendance is critical for long-term performance and improvement.
  • During preparation for championship meets, training volume and frequency may be reduced.  Separate schedules will be provided during these times.

Equipment:

Upon registration, each swimmer will receive a club t-shirt and swim cap. All swimmers will be required to have the following equipment at all sessions.

Water Equipment:

  • Training paddles (beginner)
  • Snorkel
  • Kick board
  • Pull buoy

Activation, Dryland & Flexibility Equipment:

  • SCAR shirt
  • Shorts
  • Running/gym shoes (must be indoor only)
  • Skipping rope
  • Water bottle (no glass allowed)
