Full Stroke Newsletter: February-March 2020 High Performance & Gold Hello Everyone, February is always a busy time of year and this year was no different with SCAR swimmers attending many different meets around the Greater Toronto Area. This past month saw swimmers compete at the Central Region “B” and “C” Championships, GTA Skins, and the Winter Ontario Festival Championships. I’ve also included updates and results from our most recent Winter Ontario Youth-Junior and Swimming Championship meets (March 5-8). We had collectively worked towards our first peak performance time of the...

Full Stroke: January 2020 High Performance & Gold Hello Everyone, Heading into January, HP-Gold swimmers began their second season within a season. Following the Holidays, swimmers are challenged to build off what they’ve done to date. We knew 2020 would begin with back-to-back meet weekends, and it’s these meets early in each periodization that we train through, rather than for. This is because swimmers cannot simply peak at every single competition on our schedule. We work through many, and prep for the one’s that count the most. While this is...

Full Stroke Newsletter: December 2019 High Performance & Gold Happy New Year! December sure kept us busy, with a few competitions that provided excellent results. This was our first peak opportunity of the season, with Vaughan, Windsor, or O.J.I. as their championship meet ahead of the New Year. This important time was the end of our then first periodization (season within a season). Vaughan was great, and our team trip to Windsor was lots of fun once again, providing swimmers the opportunity to live and breathe swimming as an athlete...

Full Stroke: November 2019 Newsletter High Performance & Gold First of all I would like to thank all of our wonderful meet managers, organizers, volunteers and officials for helping to make our Cindy Nicholas Memorial a tremendous success. Scarborough’s first hosted competition of the year turned out to be the largest of the fall invitational meets taking place at the Markham Pan Am Pool, and we couldn’t have done it without you. The HP-Gold swimmers had some positive performances for early in the season, following their first meet only two...

Full Stroke: October 2019 High Performance & Gold October has come and gone, and with it a busy month of rigorously training habits and group standards. Everything that I expect to see from my swimmers this year is practiced day-to-day so we have a specific base to work with this season. While some swimmers will quickly regain fine form from last year, it will naturally take others more time. Workout intensity has increased dramatically from our first few weeks, with swimmers always keeping their focus on the process. Our goal...

Welcome All to the 2019-2020 swim season! Our swimmers have quickly found themselves right back at it after what was hopefully a wonderful and recharging summer holiday. Last season was a great year for the Scarborough Swim Club, with over 90 swimmers qualifying for at least regional championship competitions. SCAR had three high point champion winners at regional and provincial meets and placed 11 swimmers on the Eastern Canadian Championships team. Of course, that wasn’t all, with 7 swimmers traveling to Calgary last July for the Canadian Junior Championships. Scarborough...

FULLSTROKE Full Stroke Newsletter - 2019 Spring Championship Edition (Part #1, Feb-Mar) Well, it has certainly been an extremely busy spring championship season for all. With many championship meets on varying weekends our swimmers worked hard to maintain their training in an attempt to peak at just the right time. We of course experienced obstacles in winter storms and temporary scheduling due to meets and impacts, but our focus always remains on controlling the controllables and managing situations positively. This is easier said than done, though it has been a...
