Brad Reid Invitational Recap

Ben Geary

Last weekend PSW sent a strong 50 swimmer team to Hyack Brad Reid Invitational in our first Heats/Finals meet of the season.

Junior Provincial

The Junior Provincial group had an amazing weekend racing! This was the first heat and finals meet for a lot of the swimmers. Some stand out swims came from Emily T. and Brandon H.  They both worked on having a fast kick throughout their 100 backstroke race.  Brandon also got his very first Divisional time in 50 backstroke and was very close to the 100 backstroke divisional time. Jeffery L. during his 100 fly and 100 backstroke final, had the BEST underwaters I’ve seen from the Junior Provincial group. He went past the flags in a tight streamline off every wall. Aaron N. swam his first 100 fly in the morning and once more during finals taking off even more time!

Youth Provincial

The Youth Provincial group had a tough weekend but performed very well in our first heats/finals meet of the season. We had a number of swimmers race their first 1500 and 800 Free between this meet and Richmond. We also had our first relays of the season which is good practice for the kids before Divisional and Provincial meets in the new year. I’m really pleased with the commitment to improving our streamlines and how it has translated into racing. We’ll keep working on it leading into our December meets.

With so many swims between Heats and Finals it’s tough to pick just a few standouts. Ethan G and Rodion I had awesome 100 and 200 Brst efforts with big best times. Hope B took 7 secs off in her 100 Fly over the course of the weekend.

Congrats also to Matthew C for breaking 5 more club records this weekend - 200 Brst, 100 Free, 50 Fly, 50 Back, 50 Brst!

From Youth Regional, Jialin A achieved the 100 Brst Divisional standard and Benny L made finals for all of his Sunday events. Jialin A and Benny L both went 100% best times.

Provincial Development

The Provincial Development group had a strong weekend racing. Connor S. had a lot of great races it was hard to decide which ones were his best! Two that stood out include 400 freestyle where he took off 26 seconds and 200 backstroke. We have been focusing on keeping his chin off his chests and toes at the surface. Max X. worked very hard the entire weekend. He had great underwaters off his walls in majority of his races! Keep up the hard work swimmers.

Western/National Development

Western and National Development had some strong swims last weekend including:

Sergey C breaking the club records in the 50 fly and breast

Kailyn F with a huge 12 sec drop in the 400 Free

Elina H had a huge swim in her 200 Breat

Matthew W swam to 100% best times with a standout in the 200 IM

Jonathan L swam to a huge best time in his 1500 free taking off almost 1min

Alex G with a best time in the 100 Breast that he has been working towards for the past year!

Now our swimmers have 2-3 weeks of hard work before they come down for our December competitions!
