Jy Lawrence Head Coach

With 13 years of coaching experience  Jy began her coaching career at the University of Calgary Swim Club in 2007 and coached for 4 years there while getting her degree in Kinesiology. She has been coaching here since 2011, marking this as her 10th year coaching with PSW. In the 2015/2016 and 2017/2018 seasons she was awarded top development coach of the year by Swim BC. Jy is also a certified yoga instructor, personal trainer and Olympic Weightlifting coach. Prior to coaching, Jy swam for PSW throughout highschool and been involved with the club since 2002.

Strasser Sankar Assistant Head Coach

Hailing from Trinidad & Tobago, Strasser joined PSW mid-season 2019/2020 and brings 10+ years of experience both as an athlete and coach. He was a member of T&T’s national team for almost a decade while also coaching a number of swimmers to the Central American and Caribbean Games, Carifta Championships, and Caribbean Islands Swimming Championships. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin Superior with a BSc in Exercise Science and Nottingham Trent University with a Masters in Sports Science- Exercise Physiology.  

Strasser is excited to be returning for the 2020/2021 season and looking forward to a year of great results.

Tiia Ovaska Assistant Coach

Tiia joins PSW for her first season as a BC resident all the way from Northern Ontario. Tiia comes with more than 10 experience as both swimmer and coach for Nickel City Aquatics in Sudbury Ontario prior to transitioning to Assistant Head Coach with the Thunder Bay Thunderbolts in 2018. She is organized, has a background in graphic design, and readily accepts the challenge of assisting in administrative duties on top of coaching this season.

Tiia believes that although a strong swimmer may be built from their coach or teammates, it is the families and community support that raise strong swimmers, students, and goal-oriented people to success.

Darlene Przybylowski Assistant Coach

Since 2007, Darlene has been involved with PSW, with 9 years as a competitive swimmer and now entering her 5th year as a coach for the club.

Thrilled to be coaching the Junior Regional group this year, she is prepared to help them achieve their swimming goals, and to mentor them into becoming competitive athletes. Growing up as a Sea Wolf, she aspires to bring them the same influence that PSW has given and impacted her.

Laiken Greffard Assistant Coach

This will be Laiken's third year coaching with PSW and her twelfth year with the club. She graduated from WRCA this year and will be taking Kinesiology at Douglas College starting in the Fall. She swam with PSW since she was 5 years old and made so many amazing memories with her teammates and coaches/mentors. Laiken creates a safe and fun environment for all of her swimmers to feel comfortable in! Laiken is looking forward to coaching returning swimmers and meeting new swimmers!
