Canmore Pentathlon Red Deer Catalina Swim Club participated in the Canmore Pentathlon October 19th and 20th which saw swimmers competing based on their combined times from all four 50m strokes along with the 100m IM. T his was the club debut for swimmers Teagan Calen, Grace Hitchcock and Jaycob Hoedel. Olympians and Award Banquet Sunday October 6th, Red Deer Catalina Swim Club, with support from the City of Red Deer, proudly hosted two Olympic swimmers to share both their stories as athletes and their knowledge of swimming with our energetic young swimmers. Jon Cleveland participated three times in the Olympic games (Seoul 1988, Barcelona 1992, Atlanta 1996). Edmonton Keyano Invitational had 35 swimmers swimming in Edmonton on May 10-12.  Some great swims were had by many! Claire Halford qualified for the Senior National Championships in 50 & 100back.  Claire also achieved her USport time in her 100back.  Kaymin Graham qualified for her first “national level” meet with her 100 breaststroke qualifying for Westerns. Wavemaker LC Invitational saw 21 swimmers team travelling to Victoria to compete April 26-28.  Priya Thomas and Myles Grant both achieved their Championship times in their 100 breaststroke.  Anja Gassner achieved a PB in 800 free also achieving her Austrian National Time. Makena Victor took off more than 1:28 in her 400 free. It was a long 3 days of swimming with travel on either side, but overall Catalina was represented very well. Mayflower swim meet was held in Edmonton on April 27 & 28 with 20 swimmers in attendance. Alex day and Logan Milman both had fantastic 200 freestyles dropping 1:02 for a 3:30 and a 1:03 for a 3:32 respectively.  James Cho achieved three provincial times in his 50's of back, fly and breast.  Both Davis Hansen and Emma Saunders had equally fantastic races each dropping over 56 seconds in 100 breast and 400 free respectively.  Way to represent Catalina!   1st James Cho-50 back, 100free, 100fly Amanda Lui-100back Dalton Powell-200...

Dino-cup had 12 athletes swimming in it. Dino-Cup is a fun swim meet for girls 10&under and boys 11&under, because the meet is geared to younger kids; you compete against just your age.  The 12 swimmers had an excellent meet many personal best achieved and dinosaurs won! 15 swimmers attended the Western Canadian Championships. This year trials took place in Toronto.  Catalina sent 2 qualified swimmers. Elizabeth Moore and Kyla Liebel.  Both girls had a challenging meet with Kyla coming off a sickness and Elizabeth having her appendix removed only 3 weeks prior to competing. Spring Championships LC Despite the fact we had a few swimmers unable to compete due to illness or timing we were still able to WIN the Medium Team Banner from Swim Alberta.
