Canmore Pentathlon
Red Deer Catalina Swim Club participated in the Canmore Pentathlon October 19th and 20th which saw swimmers competing based on their combined times from all four 50m strokes along with the 100m IM.
T his was the club debut for swimmers Teagan Calen, Grace Hitchcock and Jaycob Hoedel.
The Pentathlon tests the resiliency of swimmers with five events in short succession on day one, and the team showed tremendous team spirit and mental toughness.
Isla Wood (girls 10 year old), Joshua Cho (boys 11 year old), and Jamie Debruijn (boys 14 year old) emerged as Pentathlon winners in their age categories.
The rest of the team including the team’s newest swimmers all performed extremely well in their categories with many top ten finishes. Gian Quirino and Benjamin Bahler finished 2nd and 4th respectively in the boys 9 and under category. Addison Pruden was 2nd in the girls 10 year old category, while Mira Woods and Rebecca Fraser finished 4th and 13th respectively in the girls 11 year old category.
Jaycob Hoedel swimming in his first meet with the club earned 4th in the boys 11 year old category, while Grace Hitchcock and Makena Victor finished 2nd and 3rd respectively in the girls 12 year old category. Swimming in the boys 12 year old category Alex Day finished 9th while Jordyn Waldo swam her way to 3rd in the girls 13 year old group. Grace Butler and Lee MacFarlane finished 10th and 11th respectively in the girls 14 year old category.
Rounding out the age groupings Anja Gassner finished 6th in girls 15 and over with Brennan Woods finishing 7th in the boys 15 and over.
