Thank You ROC Swimming

Dear ROC Swimming Families,

A big thank you to all who made the ROCS Distance Night and Pentathlon meet a success this year! ROCS hosted over 300 swimmers this past weekend at the Carleton University pool from six different teams from around the Ottawa Valley area, in addition to ROCS’ own 106 participants. The coaching staff was also very happy to include the youngest members of our club from Academy Black in their very first long course competition!

All of these swimmers meant a busy weekend on deck for the many parent volunteers who made the meet possible. A huge thanks to our two meet managers, Cynda Lavoie and James Hersey, who organized the entire weekend even though they no longer have a participant in ROCS. Also essential to the meet’s success were our senior officials Wendy McCutcheon and Bruce Wallace who generously spent their entire weekend supervising the officiating. We would be remiss to not also mention the efforts of Lynn Marshall who hand entered every time that our timers noted on their results pages.

There were many other volunteers this weekend that were needed to make a competition of this size run effectively; ROCS needed to fill over 150 volunteer positions across the 3 sessions. A big thank you goes to the many parents who volunteered as an official or donated their time in some way! Many of you volunteered for multiple positions and multiple sessions and your efforts helped to make our event and our club a success!

Finally a hearty congratulations to the swimmers who raced hard and made the team proud in front of our home crowd. We had a tremendous number of successful swims, be they personal bests, trying an event for the first time long-course, or further practice for upcoming championships, and we hope every swimmer enjoyed the experience.

A big shout-out to our FINA High Point Award winners from the 2019 Pentathlon. This was our most successful year ever we took home five of the eight FINA High Point awards which were based on total results from the 200 IM and each of the four stroke 50’s/100’s:

11-12: Jacob Pawlak

13-14: Merin Boyd & Alexander Dalessio

15 & Over: Sawyer Bosley & William Risk

Thanks again from the entire ROCS team for a great meet!

Coach Nico
