ROCS Blasts into Spring with Back-to-Back Competitions

ROCS participated in two invitational meets over the first two weekends in May, and these multi-day events both featured some great races by ROCS swimmers. These meets were some of the last invitational competitions our swimmers will attend this year, and served for some as a chance to work on new racing skills and events, with others looking to qualify in additional swims at upcoming championship meets.

First up was the Open de Gatineau held at the lovely centre sportif de Gatineau on May 3rd to 5th. Despite happening on the final weekend of Carleton pool’s three-week shut-down period, the Junior and Senior swimmers who attended the meet showed no signs of rust with many personal bests being swum over the three days of competitions. Congratulations to all who raced to new PB’s that weekend, and especially the club record setters listed below:

The following weekend, ROCS sent swimmers from Academy, Junior and Senior groups to the Nepean Sportsplex for NKB’s annual Festival of Spring. This competition also ran three days, from the 10th to the 12th (Happy Mother’s Day!) and featured evening heats and morning finals for 13 and over swimmers, with timed finals in the afternoon for 12 and unders.

Congratulations to Sophie Jimenez Leiva and Ava Bechini of Academy White who become first-time qualifiers for our long-course regional championships! Those girls led the way among many fast swims over the course of the weekend, including the following club records:

There were so many HUGE improvements over the course of these two weekends of competition, the coaches would be remiss to not give a shout-out to these swimmers who “dropped a 50” from an individual race from one of these meets! These swimmers dropped at least 30 seconds (and in some cases over a minute!) from an individual race, which is like knocking off an entire length of the pool from their race! Well done ROCS swimmers!!
