Bar Set High at Youth-Junior Champs

ROCS had five swimmers competing at the Winter Ontario Youth-Junior Championships this past weekend at the Etobicoke Olympium. It was the first time for Ben, Isabella, Nolan, Ryan and Tyler at this provincial level competition and they did a fantastic job representing the team. The group had 100% best times including relay performances. Coach Nico said that he was “very proud of how they stepped up and raced against some of the best swimmers in the province.”

Ryan Ait Mamar advanced to the finals in the 50m freestyle and 100m butterfly finishing in 6th place for both events and moving up one spot from the preliminaries. Isabella Dean moved up several spots in all three of her races finishing highest in the 100m freestyle in 13th place. All three of Isabella’s performances cracked into the top 10 all time rankings for 15-16 girls at ROCS. Nolan Oma finished in 16th place in the 200m freestyle in a personal best, while Ben Thomson’s highest finish was 31st in the 100m backstroke. Tyler Laliberté won two heats in the preliminary session and finished 20th in the 50 free.

The four boys also swam in three relays and did very well - all three finished ahead of their seed times and finished in the top 10 in the 15 and over boys category, with two 9th and one 8th place finishes. Racing against nearly 600 other swimmers from across the province, it was a valuable weekend of learning for our swimmers! ROCS ROCK!
